Sue Thomas, a deaf woman who can read lips, heads for Washington D.C. with the hope of working for the FBI. While on her journey, she relates the story of her life as a deaf girl to her new companion, her hearing dog, Levi. When she finally arrives, Sue is disappointed at being relegated to clerical work.
