Johnny, Walt, JJ, and Sarah are about to leave for the Faith Heritage Festival when Johnny is hit by a vision that Walt will die at the festival. Johnny and Walt decide not to tell Sarah, who is six months pregnant.
Johnny meets the new sheriff of Cleaves Mills, Anna Turner, and is hit by a vision of her shooting a female psychiatrist. He launches an investigation against her wishes. Meanwhile, a grieving Sarah and JJ move in with Johnny.
While taking JJ to hear Vice President Stillson speak about the new generation of space exploration, Johnny get a vision of a space misson gone wrong. He must put aside his distrust of Stillson to help prevent a national disaster and bring the astronauts safely home. Meanwhile, Sarah gives birth to a baby girl she names Hope.
Johnny's coach calls and and says that JJ hasn't been showing up to practice. Johnny discovers JJ has been watching a young female acrobat practicing for the local circus. He goes to find JJ and learns that one of his childhood friends now owns the circus. Johnny also gets a vision of a murder. While trying to figure out the murder, Johnny realizes that JJ may also have the same type of visions as he does.
While Johnny is golfing, he has a vision of someone who is buried alive and running out of air. He turns to Sheriff Turner for help, who seems to be haunted by a guilty secret that she won't discuss. Johnny soon discovers his visions are of the future, and needs to overcome his differences with the Sheriff to save the man's life, as well as his own.
Johnny goes to take a much-needed relaxing vacation. At the train station, he meets a beautiful woman and has a vision of her being thrown from the train to her death. Now he must work to save her from her horrible fate.
Johnny gets a serious case of appendicitis. Sarah wants to take him to the hospital, but Johnny has a vision that if he's admitted, he'll slips into another coma. Thinking he's delirious, Sarah takes him anyway and sure enough, Johnny's vision comes true. She decides to asks Sheriff Turner to help her figure out Johnny's visions in order to save him and the other patients.
Johnny, who has now recovered from his recent coma, goes to pick up Sarah's friend Elaine from the bus station. While there, he has a horrifying vision of a deadly explosion in the bus station. He and Elaine work together against the clock to try and prevent it.
During baby Hope's baptism, Johnny touches the holy water and has a vision that thrusts him into the investigation of a missing woman, with a young priest as his main suspect.
Johnny goes to visit Bruce and has a vision of a valuable racehorse being stolen before a high stakes race. Meanwhile, Johnny wonders if he has missed his chance for a romantic relationship with Sarah when he has a vision of her and Stillson looking happy together.
In a rural town, Johnny gets a vision of his friend and fellow psychic Alex, murdered. He risks his life to save her. Meanwhile, Sarah becomes closer with Greg Stillson. He provides her with valuable information about her investigation into Walt's death.
Johnny resolves to uncover what Walt was investigating before his death. While doing so, he is struck with a vision of Sheriff Turner's death. His skills are pushed to the limit as he desperately tries to find a way out of this deadly stand-off in order to solve the mystery of Walt's investigation.
Johnny is hit with cryptic visions of Walt. While trying to find answers, he finds Reverend Gene Purdy who has been living in a monastary. Purdy believes that the Faith Heritage fire, Walt's death, the mystery of Herb Smith, and numerous other happenings are all linked somehow.
