When new football draft Derwin invites, then uninvites his girlfriend Melanie to attend his first away game, the other players' wives convince her to drop in unannounced anyway, to make sure he's not cheating on her. Meanwhile, Tasha finds out her son is not so happy with her managing his career.
Melanie attends a Saber Sunbeam meeting and learns that players' girlfriends do not enjoy the same stature as the wives; Meanwhile, Derwin receives rookie training, including all he needs to know about golddiggers, STDs and hazing; When they both attend a party, they get a crash course in the social rules of being in the pros when one girlfriend believes Melanie is flirting with her man.
Derwin gets hazed after Melanie sends gifts to the team in his name, but Jason and Malik suddenly feel pressured to do the same, and so begins a gift giving competition.
After Malik blows up at the offensive coordinator, Tasha agrees to speak to him on Malik's behalf; but unexpectedly, the two end up clicking.
Kelly approaches Jason about throwing an extravagant birthday party for her daughter, but he refuses. Meanwhile, Malik desperately wants a Madden rematch after Derwin beats him badly.
Jason and Malik's locker room disagreement snowballs into an on-the-field rift and an off-the-field disruption of their wives' friendship, leaving Melanie in an awkward spot when she invites the quartet over for a dinner party.
Malik asks Tasha to move out of the house after she unceremoniously kicks everyone out during a house party. Meanwhile, Tasha tries to keep her relationship with Kenny a secret, but that ends up causing more problems for them.
When Derwin's (Pooch Hall) image consultant (guest star Shanti Lowry), tells Derwin her idea to pair him with football player Trey Wiggs (guest star Chaz Lamar Shepherd), his former college teammate, he objects, saying he and Trey were more like rivals than teammates.
Melanie realizes that Derwin is still upset by her encounter with his rival and the bad publicity it created for him and tries to make things right. But when her efforts fail, she contemplates moving out. Surprisingly, Kelly and Tasha come to the rescue by convincing Malik and Jason to put some pressure on Derwin to do the right thing and work it out.
Melanie prepares to go home with Derwin for Christmas after the Sabres lose their final game. But her plans are thrown into chaos when the team is given a last second chance to make the postseason. However, the franchise's disinterest in Christmas causes her to leave Derwin behind and see her family anyway.
Kelly has a nervous breakdown after trying to take care of her daughter while pleasing a moody Jason and impressing his visiting parents. Meanwhile, Malik freaks out over the pending playoff game and forces Derwin to become his new practice partner.
Melanie delays taking her pregnancy test because she's not certain she wants to be pregnant. Excited by the prospects of having a child, Derwin decides to propose to Melanie during halftime on live television. But when Melanie discovers she's not pregnant, she frantically tries to tell him before he can propose so that she doesn't feel pressured to say yes. She doesn't find him in time and accepts the proposal because she feels pressured.
After the Sabers are eliminated from the playoffs, Derwin attracts strong interest from a top-tier agent who proposes Derwin forces a trade to a Chicago team.
Jason plans for retirement after failing to make the Pro Bowl; Malik plans to leave Tasha behind when he goes to the Pro Bowl because he doesn't want her to scout new clients in Hawaii.
Malik tries to make the woman he loves jealous by spending time with singer Drew Sidora. But when Drew finds out she's just being used, she seeks out Derwin for comfort. Eventually, she asks Derwin to be in her new music video, where the two share an on-screen kiss that could mean more.
Derwin runs into trouble when he realizes that singer Drew Sidora is doing more than flirting with him; Kelly is thrilled to have another baby with Jason until Tasha offers her a new job.
Melanie becomes worried when she considers that she is financially dependent on Derwin. This, after she tries to help out a fellow Sunbeam who's been shown the door by her player boyfriend.
Kelly's bid to remain Sunbeams' president takes a hit when a new player's wife opts to run against her and Tasha backs away from supporting her, too. Meanwhile, Derwin and the other Sabres have trouble adjusting to the loud, voracious, in-your-face attitude of the Sabres new defensive stud.
Melanie and Derwin come into conflict when she engages in several all-nighters for school. Meanwhile, Kenny tries to reel in Tasha's aggression, but when she perceives that she's being insulted at a dinner party, she can't bite her tongue.
Drew Sidora invites Derwin and Melanie to her video release party, prompting him to freak out about their eventual meeting. While Derwin assuages Melanie's fears, it appears he and Drew are still playing on a flirtatious level, which portends to a big confrontation down the road. Meanwhile, Tasha has trouble with her business; and, Jason tries to figure out how to be a good parent.
Derwin is surprised by an endorsement deal and that the only woman within range is temptress Drew Sidora, as Melanie is away studying. Meanwhile, Malik is conflicted about dating a woman thicker than his type; Kelly helps Tasha with her client roster; and, Jason stinks it up conducting on-camera interviews.
Melanie leaves Derwin after she discovers that he slept with Drew Sidora.
