  • TV Network Swap: What If 'Dexter' Were on VH1?
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 12, 2012
Our favorite shows feel perfect for their respective networks: The nude-friendly Game of Thrones is a tried-and-true HBO series, the tortoise-slow Mad Men fits AMC’s intelligent and patient viewers, and The Big Bang Theory never met a laugh track CBS didn’t like. But what if those series appeared on different networks? How would the show change? We’re exploring just that in our Network Swap series. Next up: What if Dexter aired on Vh1? Series: Dexter Network: VH1 TV Rating: TV-CTB. As in, make sure you are Close To Bathroom. Now that Dexter is a reality show, the decapitations and graphic blood splatters are going have a nice, disturbing, disgusting Discovery Channel feel. Shark Week has nuthin' on this. Logline: A new reality series focusing on the Miami Metro homicide unit… and Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) and Debra Morgan's (Jennifer Carpenter) newly complicated relationship. Dexter is no longer just America’s most loved serial killer — he's a serial dater as well. Debra, meanwhile, is the hopeless, lovestruck drama queen who aims to turn the homicide unit against her adoptive brother after he spurns her advances. (Yes, adoptive brother. What's a reality show without an uncomfortable romance?) Who will side with Dexter and Deb in this reality war? Demographic: Women and Men 18+ who inexplicably find themselves marathoning Mob Wives and Basketball Wives on lazy Saturdays. Pilot Plot: Deb creates a fake dating profile for Dexter on eHarmony to get revenge on him for denying her love. Too bad there already is a profile for Dexter — which he actually created to find hot dates and lure in his victims. Breakout Star: The sassy Masuka (C.S. Lee), of course. Soundbite: “Dexter is Miami’s most well-endowed serial killer," Masuka says in a sexy, yet creepy voice over. "Can I get myself a bite of that?" Sweeps Twist: Deb has a secret of her own: She was married to a Mob serial killer briefly before he ratted out his entire maffioso family, and he was sent to prison to serve two life sentences back-to-back. Oh and, Sgt. Angel Batista (David Zayas) is openly gay and dating Masuka. Reason People Watch: Because the blood and drama in Mob Wives and Basketball Wives just wasn’t enough. What the Critics Say: “This is how you mix drama and blood, True Blood." "Dexter — a real show that kills it." "Can I put my DVR out of its misery?" Spin-Off Possibilities: Deb Morgan stars on The Bachelorette: On the Wings of a Serial Killer. Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez) partners up with Big Ang to fight crime in NYC. And Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington) nabs a starring role in Magic Mike 2. Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. More: TV Network Swap: What if 'Louie' Were on The CW? • Miley Cyrus Reported for Battery, Says LAPD
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 11, 2012
What happens when 19-year-old Miley Cyrus parties in the USA past midnight? She reportedly gets into fights. Sara Faden, a spokesperson for the LAPD, tells Hollywood.com that a battery report was filed against Cyrus at approximately 1:15 Sunday morning after the Hannah Montana star allegedly got physical with a partygoer at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif. "She and an unidentified man — [who] may have been her boyfriend or significant other — were talking with another gentleman when they became involved with an argument," the spokesperson says. "After an encounter with this man, a battery report was filed at our LA Hollywood PD station alleging that she pushed him and maybe punched him as well." The spokesperson confirms that no arrests have been made and that there were no "visible signs of any injury." Hollywood detectives are currently investigating the alleged incident further. Hollywood.com has yet to hear back from Cyrus' rep. Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • Jessica Simpson's Body Not Shown in New Weight Watchers Commercial — VIDEO
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 11, 2012
Jessica Simpson knows a thing or two about what it takes to get her pre-baby body back. As the most recent spokeslady for Weight Watchers (joining the ranks of Mariah Carey and Jennifer Hudson), Simpson opens up about about her struggles in a new ad. But what is surprising about this new commercial is that it doesn't show any full-length shots of Simpson's body. Instead, it focuses strictly on Simpson's beautiful face. "There is a lot of pressure to lose weight, but I'm not a supermodel," Simpson states in the video. "I'm just Jessica, trying to eat real food in the real world, and I really just want to be healthy for my daughter." Simpson — who weighed in at 170 pounds when she shot her naked, pregnant Elle cover in April — told Katie Couric (on Katie, according to CBS News) Monday that she is attempting to do 14,000 steps a day and is trying to stay focused on a diet. "It's working, and it feels amazing," Simpson says in her ad. "Really I just want to be a better version of myself." Simpson has faced much scrutiny over the years about her fluctuating weight, and the fact that she doesn't show her full, post-baby body in this video probably won't help her any. Check out the video below, and tell us what you think. Should the commercial have shown Simpson's full body? Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • Jerry Lawler, WWE Commentator, Suffers a Heart Attack
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 11, 2012
Update: WWE released the following statement to us Tuesday at 12:40 PM: “As of this morning, Jerry 'The King' Lawler is in a cardiac care unit and all his vital signs are stable. WWE will provide additional information as it becomes available. We continue to wish Jerry all the best for a full recovery.” Monday night was a frightening night for WWE fans as they learned that infamous wrestler and World Wrestling Entertainment commentator Jerry "The King" Lawler suffered a heart attack. Lawler, who is 62 years old, reportedly collapsed at the announcers' table during a live, televised show in Montreal, WWE.com reports. He was rushed to the hospital. "Jerry 'The King' Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating during last night’s broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal," WWE confirmed in statement to Hollywood.com. "We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family." Lawler's co-host Michael Cole addressed fans Monday night letting them know that the situation was "serious," but that Lawler was breathing on his own. "This is not part of tonight’s entertainment,” Cole said, according to ABC News. “This is a real-life situation.” While Lawler is semi-retired — he was a huge star in the seventies and eighties — he does sometimes get in the ring to test his skills. According to ABC News, Lawler reportedly briefly joined in on a match earlier in the evening before returning to his commentating duties. Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • Gorgeous (and Gaudy) Emmy Fashion from the Past
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 10, 2012
The Emmy awards toasts the best talent on the small screen — yet, during the ceremony's red carpet, we can't help but shake our heads over the worst looks on the red carpet. Chunky necklaces, questionable silhouettes, gaudy sequins — no star should ever wear something that shines brighter than them. Still, while some TV stars go dim on the red carpet, others awe us with their brilliance. Here's a look at some of the most beautiful and the most gaudy fashion selections at the Emmy Awards from years past. Click Here to Launch Our Emmys Fashion Gallery! • MTV VMAs: What You Didn't See
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 07, 2012
What a night! The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards packed in just about all the excitement that two hours of television could handle. First, Rihanna kicked off the night with a fiery performance in a hot red jumpsuit. Next, host Kevin Hart took the stage to rattle off joke after joke, poking fun at Snooki's baby and Kristen Stewart's cheating scandal. Later on, Taylor Swift put on another unforgettable (though we wish we could wipe it from our minds) off-key performance. Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner even stopped by to introduce the new trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1, which premiered during the last 30 minutes of the show. But what about the moments that were missed? Don't worry, we've got you covered. • Carson Daly Is a Dad to a Little Girl
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 07, 2012
Carson Daly sure is going to have a lot to talk about on his NBC late night show Last Call with Carson Daly. The 39-year-old former MTV TRL host welcomed his second child, a baby girl named Etta, with his girlfriend Siri Pinter on Thursday (ironically, the same night that the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards aired). "Tonight at 5:15pm we welcomed the latest addition to our family," Daly posted on his Facebook. "Etta Jones Daly weighs 8lbs and is beautiful! Mom was a rockstar, Jackson James is a proud big bro, and dad's drinking a cold one. Praise God." Sounds like Daly is up for a whole new adventure. While he has had some practice being a father to his son Jackson, to whom Pinter gave birth to in March 2009, raising a little girl is completely different. But it seems like Daly is ready for the happy challenge. He and Pinter announced the pregnancy back in May. Congrats to the family on their new addition. Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 2' Trailer Debuts at the 2012 MTV VMAs
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 06, 2012
Holy smokes, it's almost here: the final flick in the Twilight series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2. While the movie isn't set for release for another two months, Twihards got a taste of Edward and Bella Cullen's final bow when MTV debuted the official trailer for the movie during the 2012 Video Music Awards Thursday night. (See it embedded below!) Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Peter Facinelli took the stage to introduce the teaser, just before the Best New Artist award was handed to One Direction. At the end of Part One, we watched as Bella (Kristen Stewart) transformed into a vampire. And, in the trailer, we are introduced to the living and breathing vampire Bella for the first time. In the spot, we see the heroine trying out her new supernatural abilities, flying through the air and jumping off cliffs. And it seems that she has figured out her powers just in time -- a war is about to begin.  As Maggie Grace's Irina announces, the Cullen family has done "something terrible" — and now, the Volturi are coming to fight them. As we have seen in the past, it looks as though the wolves side with the Cullens to protect Bella (and the "terrible" mistake, which is presumably Renesmee, Edward and Bella's half human half vampire daughter).  "I've never been afraid of vampires," Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) proudly proclaims. Bella adds, "I'll never let anybody hurt you," talking to her beloved daughter. We are left with scenes of an epic battle. Who will come out the victors? We have to wait until Breaking Dawn — Part 2 premieres Nov. 16 to find out who wins this final Twilight war. Or just, you know, read the book. • James Franco Sued for Defamation by Former Professor
By: Lindsey DiMattina Sep 06, 2012
The End of the World is coming for actor James Franco. Well, not really. He's just reportedly facing a lawsuit. Franco was slammed with a defamation lawsuit Tuesday in New York City by his former NYU film professor, who says that the actor spoke poorly about him after Franco received a "D" for skipping class. The plaintiff José Angel Santana's attorney Matthew Blit tells Hollywood.com, "The suit was filed to prevent Mr. Franco from further defaming Dr. Santana as well as to obtain monetary damages that Mr. Franco's caused by his latest public remarks." “Whoever was in Clint Eastwood’s chair at the Republican National Convention was more present than Mr. Franco was in my classes,” Santana said to the New York Post. He called Franco a "bully," adding, “He uses the bully pulpit of his celebrity to punish anyone who doesn’t do his bidding." According to the report, Santana is asking for an unspecified amount of money, claiming that Franco made "disparaging and inaccurate public statements." "I didn’t deserve to be on the receiving end of those falsehoods,” said Santana, who was fired in September 2011. “I was outraged that someone with his attendance record at NYU had the audacity to make those statements.” After Santana was let go by the university, Franco told reporters, “I didn’t feel like I needed to waste my time with a bad teacher. No teacher will ever be fired from NYU for giving a student a ‘D.' He wasn’t fired, he was asked not to come back after three years because they didn’t think he was a good teacher.” Franco added in another interview, “He is not going to be hired at another institution." Santana is now claiming that Franco defamed him despite the fact that the actor allegedly had access to Santana's "overwhelmingly positive student evaluations." Hollywood.com has yet to hear back from Franco's rep. Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. More: Which Starlet Did James Franco Smack Talk?
