  • Lady Gaga and Snooki Start a Trend: Furs... in the Summer?!
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 10, 2012
The last thing most of us want to think about is summer coming to an end. No one (that is sane, at least) looks forward to those cold winter months when your DVDs of The O.C. are the closest you'll come to the beach all season. You sigh, realizing your adorable Tory Burch thongs — they are a type of sandal, by the way, for the dirty minds out there — and comfy, cotton Urban Outfitters slip dresses will have to stay in the back of your closet for another few months. Instead, you're forced to put on those snow-stained Uggs and that itchy wool coat that's already covered in coffee stains. While most of us are happy our winter gear will stay stuffed in our closets for at least another few months, it seems that there are some, especially in the Hollywood community, who just don't want to let go of their fuzzy finds. In fact, they are so attached, they're opting to wear them in the months of June, July, and August, where items like chinchilla coats and Lamb Fur Ankle Boots just don't belong. Why are the likes of Lady Gaga and Snooki sporting these fur items in the dead heat of summer? It's all in the name of fashion, folks. And others are taking note — it seems they have started a trend of embracing hot summer looks. Literally. Check out their interesting choices below! • Amy Winehouse's Ex-Husband Blake Fielder-Civil Is on Life Support — REPORT
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 10, 2012
Just over a year ago, the fans and members of the music industry mourned the death of 27-year-old R&B, soul, and jazz singer Amy Winehouse, who, according to the coroner, died from the "unintended consequence" of consuming too much alcohol. And now, the singer's ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, 30, is battling for is own life. Fielder-Civil, a former video production assistant, is on life support in a U.K. hospital in Dewsbury, West Yorks, after reportedly suffering multiple organ failures from the consumption of alcohol and drugs, according to the U.K. paper The Sun. According to The Sun, Fielder-Civil was found choking in his bed on Thursday after a drinking session before he was rushed to the hospital. Sarah Aspin, the mother of Fielder-Civil's 15-month-old son, said that doctors placed him in an induced coma. “The doctors say they don’t know the prognosis," she said. "They said they put him in a coma to help him and due to infection." “I’m praying he’ll survive, but I’m having to prepare myself that he may never wake up," Aspin added. Reports suggest that Fielder-Civil had an on-going battle with drug addiction and had recently been spending time behind bars for a jail sentence. Winehouse's dad, Mitch Winehouse, took to Twitter to ask Amy's fans to pray for Fielder-Civil's recovery. "Terrible news about Blake this morning," he posted. "Remember Amy loved him. Let's pray for his recovery. Mitch" And on Friday morning, Mitch Winehouse updated fans: "It looks like Blake is going to get through this. That's good news. Mitch" Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • Lady Gaga, Kate Middleton, and More: Who Makes the September Issue Cut?
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 09, 2012
The September issue is otherwise known in the magazine industry as the biggest. Issue. Of. The. Year. So big that editors and magazine staff start planning the issue up to six months before it hits stands. It's a long and arduous process: Editors compete to feature the hottest stars on their covers and drape them in outfits from the best designers, all while introducing the new "in" trends of the fall; advertisers jump to fill these "books" with pristine ads of beautiful young models flaunting gorgeous clothes you'll never be able to afford. And the process (memorably chronicled in 2009's The September Issue) works — as readers turn the pages of Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, and others, we mentally plan our new wardrobes (or mentally plan a career path that would enable us to buy new wardrobes) based on the looks displayed in the magazines' glossy pages. But our interest in the September issue extends beyond the fashion — pop culture fans clamor to see which star makes which cover every year. And to read what these glamorous ladies have to say inside the pages. It's true the September issue is pretty much like a select edition of a rare book... if that book was about Lady Gaga. Here's a look at who made the select cut of the September issues of 2012 — and some of the most interesting quotes from their interviews. Click Her to Launch Our September Issue Gallery! • Country Singer Randy Travis Arrested in the Nude for Alleged DWI
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 09, 2012
Well, this is certainly something you don't want to see every day, or any day for that matter. 53-year-old country singer and 6-time Grammy Award winner Randy Travis was arrested again on Tuesday evening for yet another alleged alcohol-related offense. But instead of swaying around in public (in front of a church for that matter), holding an open container like he did back in February, Travis was found by Sheriffs in the nude, People.com reports. Travis reportedly crashed his car Tuesday night and was taken into custody just before midnight. Grayson County Texas Sherriffs responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call that reported a man was lying in the middle of the road. (That doesn't sound safe!) When they arrived on the scene, they found a very nude Travis with a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage," the Sheriff's department said. But despite the strong smell, Travis refused to take a alcohol blood or breath test, so he was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI). Since Travis refused the test, law enforcement had to draw blood using a search warrant. He was then placed behind bars on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated AND a felony of retaliation ("While Travis was being transported, [he] made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case," the Sheriff's Department said in a statement). Travis has reportedly since been released, but he first had to post a hefty bail of $21,500. And what did that expensive bond buy him besides the right to walk out the doors of the county jail? A pair of paper pants and a matching blue paper shirt like the kind of getup that is offered to you at the doctor's office for an exam! Classy. As mentioned earlier, this isn't the first time that Travis has had a run-in with the law over an alcohol-related occurrence. Back in February, the Ole Country Boy was charged with public intoxication after police found him chilling in front of a church, smelling of alcohol, and holding an open bottle. Travis may be trying to prove that he is "wild and free," but hopefully this bad behavior doesn't last "Forever and Ever, Amen." Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat More: Is Kate Bosworth Engaged? • The Celebrity Baby Photo Recession: Did Stars Price Themselves Out of the Market?
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 08, 2012
"My New Baby," heralds the latest cover of Us Weekly with a blissful, pristine photo of reality star Kourtney Kardashian, son Mason, and newborn daughter Penelope.   The celebrity magazine baby reveal has been a staple of the genre for years: In fact, we've seen it dozens of times in the past decade with A-Listers (Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez), reality stars (Kendra Wilkinson and Bethenny Frankel) and scandalous stars (Jamie Lynn Spears and Octomom).  "Readers love seeing the first pics of celebrities' babies," Dan Wakeford, editor-in-chief, In Touch and Life & Style magazines, tells Hollywood.com. "While readers don't necessarily know what it's like to be a star, having a baby is a universal experience that everyone can relate to." But in the past few years, it seems there's been a marked decrease in the number of baby reveals on the covers of the celebrity weeklies. Now, more and more celebrity parents like Beyoncé and Matthew McConaughey are choosing to show off their babies on social media and on their own web sites (for free) instead of going for the big payday.  One reason for the downturn? Magazines aren’t shelling out the big bucks they used to thanks to a shrinking economy and softer magazine sales. "The market was larger back in the day," Richard Spencer, Editorial Director of the Celebrity Magazine Group (Star and OK! magazines) at American Media Inc., tells us. "The prices have definitely gone down across the board just because the market has come down. It's almost a waste of time for some celebrities to look for very high price tags because they're simply not going to get it."  Spencer estimates that a group of shots like Kardashian's would go for something "in the neighborhood of $250,000" today. Still not small potatoes, but five years ago, magazines paid insanely high sums to show off those coveted first pics. "The going rate for just the average celebrity baby back then – and we're not talking a Brangelina baby—was about $1 million," Jo Piazza, author of Celebrity, Inc., explains. "The last $1 million paydays were in 2008. Now celebs are lucky if they get six figures for those pics." Business Insider reports that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sold the pics of their twins Vivienne and Knox back in 2008 to People and Hello! for between $11 to $15 million. People also reportedly paid Nicole Richie $1 million for pics of Harlow in 2008, and Britney Spears banked a reported $500,000 for shots of her son Sean Preston in 2005. A CHANGING ATTITUDE There's also been a mood shift among more elite stars—is it déclassé to accept money for photos of your most precious creation? "There was a lot of backlash against celebrities selling their baby pictures," Piazza says. "People started to think it was unfair, a little ridiculous for people to be capitalizing on their babies during the celebrity baby picture boom." Now, "some A-list celebs think it looks a little tacky," she adds. "When people like the Kardashians are putting their baby pics on the cover, it loses some cache for Oscar winners to be doing it." And that's why some A-Listers who we used to see on covers are taking a step back from the magazine lines and moving toward social media, which they can control. "For celebrity brands, it's important that a consumer feels close to them," says Piazza. "By releasing pics on social media, you kind of feel like you saw one of your friend’s baby pics. It makes readers feel a lot more intimately connected with these celebrities, and celebrities know that. They know that if they do that, if someone feels a connection, they will go see their movies, they will buy their CDs, and buy their perfumes. In the long run, it makes so much more sense." And ultimately, bigger sums still go to those stars who can move magazine copies. And surprise — it's not always the A-List actors. Spencer notes that magazine publishers are more likely to spend a lot on celebs who are already proven cover stars. "The Karadashians are going to sell more magazines than Beyoncé and Matthew McConaughey because that family is written about almost every week in all the celebrity weeklies, whereas Beyoncé and Matthew McConaughey aren't," he explains. And when it all boils down: "You have to go with who is selling." Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • 'Hunger Games' Star Stanley Tucci Secretly Marries Emily Blunt's Sister — REPORT
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 08, 2012
First Natalie Portman tried to sneak off and have a secret wedding with her now hubby Benjamin Millepied over the weekend, and now another couple has followed their example. The Hunger Games star Stanley Tucci confirmed to the New York Daily News that he and Emily Blunt's younger sister, Felicity Blunt, have tied the knot. While the news may sound surprising, the couple actually did step out in public on Monday to a screening of Hope Springs in New York City — and both husband and wife were wearing their wedding bands, the Daily News reports. Plus, they have actually been engaged for a while; Tucci popped the question back in October 2011. Hopefully Tucci, 51, and Blunt, who is a literary agent, find happiness together. Gosh knows that Tucci totally deserves it after the tragic heartbreak of losing his first wife, Kate, in 2009 to breast cancer. Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • Wedding Do's and Don't: 10 Rules We Can Learn from Celebrity 'I Do's'
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 07, 2012
It's wedding season. That means thousands of men and women are in the midst of planning their guest lists, catering, flowers, bridesmaids dresses, and, of course, wedding dresses. And if you're a celebrity — like Natalie Portman, who wed Benjamin Millepied this past weekend — you're also planning to block out the paparazzi from your ritzy affair. (As you can see based on the picture to the left, that plan doesn't always work so well.) Of course, it's likely you won't have to deal with prying pap eyes at your wedding. But you can take other cues from A-list Hollywood nuptials... and not take cues from some weddings-gone-wrong. So, for your upcoming walk down the aisle, here is some advice borrowed.  Do’s 1. Do Your Own Makeup Kate Middleton literally found her own Prince Charming — but she didn’t let the fact that she was marrying royalty go to her head. instead of hiring a makeup artist, the future Duchess opted to do it herself. And guess what? She looked so stunning, her wedding style set a trend for brides-to-be around the world. Royally awesome. 2. Do Make Your Vows Profitable Heidi Klum and Seal's union did end in divorce, but at least the singer scored and sold a few ballads — including "Wedding Day" — during their marriage. Of course, it's likely you don't have a major recording contract, but perhaps you could at least eBay some of those less-than-desireable wedding gifts?  3. Do Send Out Wedding Invitations Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas reportedly didn't send out wedding invites, opting instead to send out a mass text message informing guests where and when the wedding would take place. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are also rumored to be pulling a similar stunt. But is this really practical, especially considering the sneakiness of the paparazzi? (See: Portman's picture above.) Instead, give your family and friends some preparation time. You don't really want them showing up in jeans and Crocs, do you? 4. Do Run Away and Get Married One affordable option that allows you to avoid people who wear jeans and Crocs? Elope like Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz did in 2010.  5. Do Get a Free Wedding Bachelor Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney saved buckets of cash by allowing cameras to take their wedding. But if you didn't meet your soul mate on a dating show, there are other ways for you to nab the wedding jackpot via series like My Fair Wedding or Bridezillas. Of course, for the latter, you'd have to be suitably obnoxious. Watch episodes of Jersey Shore in preparation.  Don’ts 1. Don't Make a Scene When Getting Your Marriage License Nothing goest together quite as well as love and marriage... and paparazzi fights. While fetching his license in NYC in June, Baldwin sparred with a photographer in front of other cameras. Learn from Baldwin's mistakes and control your anger around prying family members — especially if you want to avoid walking with a sheet over your head in the days leading up to the biggest affair of your life. 2. Don't Look for Inspiration on Reality TV Falling in love on reality TV may seem like fun, but the boob tube doesn't boast the best success rates. If the fact that only two of The Bachelor franchise's 24 matched couples wed isn't proof enough, just look at Kim Kardashian. She shared the story of her romance with Kris Humphries with all of her E! fans, and she ended up filing for divorce just 72 days after the couple wed. But we're sure Kardashian's headdress already convinced you she wasn't an apt wedding role model.  3. Don't Marry the Rebound Just two years after pop power couple Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears split — and shortly after the release of Timberlake's break-up tune "Cry Me a River" — Spears decided to wed childhood friend Jason Alexander in a quickie Vegas wedding. Spears and Alexander's marriage lasted a whole 55 hours — blissfully short enough to help us avoid being punished with a "Popozao." 4. Don't Lie About Your Bachelor/Bachelorette Party What happens behind closed doors, is supposed to stay behind closed doors — but what happens to a celebrity on Spring Break in Mexico is guaranteed to make headlines. During an interview with Howard Stern, Mario Lopez revealed that he cheated on his soon-to-be wife Ali Landry days before their wedding at his bachelor party in Cabo. Landry reportedly thought her fiancé was going on a quiet fishing trip — little did she know he was throwing out bait during a wild night in a club. 5. Don't Wear a Bikini Instead of a Wedding Gown Pamela Anderson must have forgotten that her Baywatch years were over when she walked down the aisle to wed Kid Rock in 2006. While most people opt for pearls and white lace, Anderson instead chose a rather revealing white bikini, a crafty belly chain, and a matching sailor hat to complete her uh, maritime (not marital) getup. Yeah, not the best of bridal styles. Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • Sharon Osbourne Quitting 'AGT' After NBC Fired Jack Osbourne — REPORT
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 07, 2012
Looks like America's Got Talent may be the next reality series to see a shake-up on the judge's panel. Sharon Osbourne told the New York Post she plans to leave the hit NBC series once Season 7 comes to a close. Her reported decision stems from a feud with the network — back in June, the judge's son, Jack Osbourne, claimed NBC fired him from the upcoming reality competition show Stars Earn Stripes after he announced his multiple sclerosis diagnosis. "I just can’t be fake," Sharon told the Post. "It’s discrimination, and it was badly handled." According to Sharon, producers for Stars Earn Stripes fired her son via email just two days before he was supposed to start work on the set. But during a press conference in July, producer David Hurwitz said they had never hired Jack from the start: "He was somebody we were in talks with." (NBC has not yet responded to Hollywood.com's request for comment.) Both Sharon and Jack admit that he never formally signed his contract with the network, but that all parties involved were moving forward on good faith, which is a pretty common practice in the industry. "I was working without a signed contract right up until the live shows started on America’s Got Talent," Sharon said. "Everything is done at the last minute. We took six months to negotiate back and forth." After first being contacted by NBC in April, Jack received a letter from the network's vice president of Talent Relations, Chuck LaBella, in May that reportedly read: "We are looking forward to working with you. I am happy you are going to be in the NBC family." One month later, Jack made his condition public — and two days before Jack was set to start working, his mother claimed that she received an email from NBC stating, "Regretfully, we cannot move forward with Jack’s participation." (As Hurwitz said at the press conference, "The rigors of the show were too intense for him.") After much back-and-forth with the network, Sharon made her decision to leave AGT. "It’s time to move on," she said. "They can’t make me do something I don’t want to do." Osbourne, who is still technically under contract with the network, added, "All they can do is stop me from being a judge on another network for five years."  An NBC rep, who told the Post that Sharon had been offered the chance to discuss the matter with the network further, called the matter a "misunderstanding" and insisted the AGT judge is a "valuable part of the NBC family." Though the judge has yet to confirm the news to Hollywood.com, Osbourne tweeted apologies to her fans: "Please don't misunderstand. I love @nbcagt w/ all my heart and will of course finish out the season. It is still one of the best shows on tv. Thank you to everyone for your outpouring of support and love." • Miley Cyrus vs. Barbie: The Battle of The Blondes — PICS
By: Lindsey DiMattina Aug 06, 2012
So much for Miley Cyrus just being Miley. It now looks like Cyrus is trying to be a Barbie Girl and trying to live in a Barbie world. Over the weekend, Cyrus posted six pictures of her getting her hair done — and well, quite frankly, it looks as though she took her color inspiration from a Barbie Doll by going platinum blonde. Cyrus already has her own Ken Doll (her fiance Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth), her own Barbie-like mansion in Los Angeles, and a wardrobe that any girl would pretty much die for, so with this new transformation, what's left? Check out these new shots of Cyrus going platinum blonde. Who do you think wears this 'do better: Cyrus or Barbie?
