  • Robin Roberts Taking a Break from 'GMA' to Undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 27, 2012
It looks like Good Morning America fans will be waking up without their favorite co-host Robin Roberts for a brief period next month. The 51-year-old broadcaster will be taking some time off at the end of August from her routine post on the morning show to undergo a bone marrow transplant that will help treat the blood and bone marrow disease, Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), that she was diagnosed with earlier this year. "It's fascinating-slash-scary how to prepare yourself for something like this," Roberts said during a press conference for the Television Critics Association on Thursday, according to the Associated Press. She also admitted that she has been experiencing "moments of fatigue." But at least Roberts, who also beat breast cancer in 2007, has GMA's recent gains on the Today show to help keep her spirit up. "The run that we've had has truly energized me," she said. "It's pretty good medicine, I gotta say, to be taking!" And Roberts has some "wonderful, wonderful friends" by her side that will help fill in while she is trying to get better. Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters, Katie Couric, and maybe even Kelly Ripa will be subbing for Roberts during her absence. • Lindsay Lohan Involved in Another Car Accident
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 26, 2012
Cleopatra, coming at ya. Well, actually it is Lindsay Lohan and her black Porsche. Seriously, someone needs to take Lohan's keys and hide them from her because she just can't seem to stay out of trouble when she's behind the wheel. Lohan — who is currently playing the infamous Cleopatra star Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming Lifetime movie, Liz & Dick — got into another car accident on Wednesday, according to TMZ. According to the report, Lohan had just finished shopping in Beverly Hills when she hit a silver Mustang that wasn't moving on Sunset Boulevard. A female passenger in the car that was hit says that a male who had been riding with Lohan apologized for the fender-bender, and then left a phone number. The woman then says that the guy told her that he and Lohan had to leave because the paparazzi were chasing them. The damage sustained in this this accident was very minimal. The Mustang received a few, minor cosmetic scrapes — while it's unknown if Lohan's car suffered any damage at all. This accident is a far cry from the one that occurred on June 8, when Lohan reportedly crashed into 18-wheeler semi-trailer. That accident left Lohan hospitalized and her car totally banged up. has yet to hear back from Lohan's rep. • Kristen Stewart Apologizes to Robert Pattinson: 'I Love Him, I Love Him'
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 25, 2012
Prepare yourself, Twihards. (Or pick up those Team Jacob shirts?) After reports surfaced Wednesday that Kristen Stewart cheated on Twilight costar/boyfriend Robert Pattinson with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, the actress publicly admitted to an affair with a heart-felt statement regarding her "indiscretion." "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," Stewart said in the statement, according to "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry." The 41-year-old Sanders — who has two children with model Liberty Ross — also released a statement to "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world, I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together." Stewart's affair with Sanders happened just four years after she met Pattinson during filming of the first movie of the Twilight series. Pictures in Us Weekly show Stewart and Sanders in the midst of a make-out session in a car, as well as several cozy pictures of Stewart and Sanders. Pattinson has yet to react to Stewart's admission. By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 25, 2012
UPDATE: Kristen Stewart has issued a public statement apologizing to Robert Pattinson for cheating: "I'm deeply sorry."  Typically, we should take all Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson rumors with a grain of salt — remember when they got married? — but several outlets including and Us magazine are reporting that the 22-year-old actress cheated on Pattinson, 26. According to the reports, Stewart recently hooked up with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. And Us reportedly has pictures of Stewart cozying up with Sanders, 41 (who is married to 33-year-old model Liberty Ross and has two children that are 7 and 5)) as recently as July 17. See below. "Kristen is absolutely devastated," a source tells People. "It was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgment ... She wasn't having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened. She never meant to hurt anyone. She's a good person who just made a bad choice." So much for those blissful photos of Stewart and Pattinson, 26, at Comic-Con just over a week ago. Could this mean the end of our favorite Twilight couple? • 'Bachelorette' Emily Maynard: Ricki Doesn't Know I'm Engaged to Jef Holm
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 24, 2012
The whole world — or, at least, those of us who dedicated our Sunday night to television over family time (oops!) — watched as Jef Holm asked Emily Maynard for her hand in marriage on the season finale of The Bachelorette. But while the final episode has aired, allowing the couple to publicly declare their love for one another on morning shows and tabloid covers free of contractual violations, there is still one person who doesn't know about their relationship: Emily's 6-year-old daughter, Ricki Hendrick. "She doesn't know that we're engaged yet," Emily told reporters Tuesday. Surprisingly, little Ricki is not alone. Runner-up Arie Luyendyk Jr. (pronounced Lion-Dyke) didn't learn Emily had accepted Jef's proposal until after he had flown across the country — and gifted her with his emotion-filled journal — in an attempt to win Emily back after filming had wrapped. "Arie and I — we've talked a few times since the show ended," Jef said. "We would just call each other randomly, see how the other person was doing. And I thought he knew at first. I thought that he knew that Emily and I were engaged. So when I found out that he showed up in Charlotte [Emily's hometown] and left his journal, it was a shock because I thought he knew we were engaged, and he went behind my back and did that kind of thing. Then I found out it wasn't communicated to him. He didn't know and he dropped off his journal." And about that journal... Emily thought it would be disrespectful to Jef if she read the contents of Arie's journal. "I was really surprised that Arie came all the way to Charlotte," she said. "I think it says a lot about who he is and how open he was to this experience. But I have a journal, and I know that I wouldn't want anyone to read it unless they shared the same feelings for me that I have for them. I think that later on down the road, that he will be able to see that, even if he can't right now. [And], out of respect for Jef, I didn't think that was a good idea either, just because I don't think anything good could come of that." Neither did Jef. He told reporters he too was glad his fiancé didn't read the runner-up's inner thoughts. "I feel the same way," he said. "When I found out that Arie left his journal there — I've always felt secure in what Emily and I have — and so I gave her the option. I said, 'It's okay with me if you want to read it. I'd rather you not, because it's not really going to help us. It's not going to do any good for you to read it and know all those things that are in there.' I guess I wasn't too for it." So... have they gotten busy? No doubt the couple is wrapped up in TV appearances following the season finale, but we're not talking about whether or not they've gotten busy. We want to know if they've gotten bus-ay! While Emily and Jef were quite candid about how the felt about Arie's journal, they danced around whether or not they had gotten intimate after the show wrapped. (Fans of The Bachelorette would recall the couple neglected to enter the fantasy suite during filming.) "Well, I mean, we didn't spend the night together on the show, but we have weekends where we get to, you know, spend the whole weekend together," Emily replied to coyly. "And, yeah, we're engaged." Can we expect a Spin-off? While Emily said she did find true love on the show, she has no plan to keep their relationship in front of the cameras. "I have no interest in every doing any spin-off show or anything like that," she said. "I have been looking forward to the day that I get to go back to normal and not worry about cameras or anything like that. Jef and I can just be two people who fell in love on a show." Life as they know it. Now that the couple has been allowed to go public with their relationship, Emily wants to focus on getting Jef and Ricki better acquainted with each other. "It hasn't been that long ago since we left Curacao [where the finale was filmed], so I've been easing her into everything very slowly," Emily told "Right now, just for secret's sake, she knew that Jef was our friend and lots of fun, because I didn't want her running around telling everybody. Now that the secret is out, we can get back to our normal schedule. I am excited about spending more time [as] the three of us." And Jef is even planning to move to Charlotte. "I have begun looking at houses and apartments in Charlotte," he said. "I'm really excited for the move. I think it's going to take place the first, second, third, maybe fourth week of August. Ricki starts school the 22nd, so I want to be there to support her and get involved in her life as quickly as I can." • Predicting The Next 'Bachelor': How ABC Makes Its Decision
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 23, 2012
On Sunday night, Emily Maynard spurned Arie Luyendyk Jr. after choosing — and eventually getting engaged to — Jef Holm. Of course, the contestant didn't go out without a fight — or, at least, a savvy public relations move. Not only were audience members invited to sympathize with Luyendyk after watching Maynard publicly cut ties on The Bachelorette finale, but he also was given the opportunity to confront the Bachelorette again during the live After The Final Rose special.  Ardent Bachelor fans might have found the scene familiar. Just last summer, after Bachelorette Ashley Hebert dumped Ben Flajnik, we watched his tearful confrontation with her during the After the Final Rose. But we couldn't completely pity the rejected contestant. After all, Flajnik became The Bachelor. But is ABC planning to groom Maynard's sloppy seconds to become the next Bachelor, just like they did with Ben? Or will the network opt for a different — and perhaps more surprising — choice? And how does the network even choose the next Bachelor? Former Bachelorette winner Jesse Csincsak weighs in on the secrets of the network's selection process, and helps us evaluate the odds. Arie Luyendyk, Jr. The spurned contestant seems like he would be a good fit (those sappy journal entries!), but based on his career path, Csincsak thinks the race car driver isn't ABC's front-runner for the post. "Arie is almost the perfect candidate because he's got the career already," Csincsak tells "He could do a lot for his career as a race car driver by making himself a household name, sponsor-wise, than any of these other guys. [But] the network probably knows that and that's probably why he's not at the top of their list. They will probably go with these other guys who potentially don't have the money to be made off of it like [Luyendyk] does." Like, for example... Roberto Martinez Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky's ex-fiance Roberto Martinez may actually have a leg up on Luyendyk, despite his absence from ABC's rose-filled reality series since he walked away engaged to Fedotowsky in 2010. "Roberto would be good because that guy is legit — he is really there for love," Csincsak says. "I'm not saying Arie and the others aren't — but, he's always been this down-to-earth, normal guy. That's why I think he would make such a good Bachelor."  But what if Martinez would rather put his reality TV days behind him? Well, then look to the most popular men in ABC's reality school. As Csincsak says, the series looks first and foremost at likeability. "It all goes off of ratings," Jesse says. "They get on the message boards, and they will see which guy is being talked about being the next Bachelor and which guy has the most ratings. When we came off of my season, Jason Mesnick had like 700,000 posts about him and Jeremy had 20,000, so it was a no brainer," Jesse adds. "He had seven times the amount of comments about him, so they made him the next Bachelor." Also working in Martinez's favor: While it seems that most runner-ups are shoe-ins for the job (see: Mesnick and Flajnik), others have won the title after getting eliminated from The Bachelorette much earlier. Bob Guiney, who was The Bachelor of Season 4, was a contestant on Trista Sutter's season of The Bachelorette. He made it only three episodes before she sent him home. Jake Pavelka survived six episodes on Jillian Harris' season before he got to headline his own show in Season 14. And, just as Martinez booking the gig would be a different selection — as the winner of his season — Brad Womack also had enjoyed a unique run in the franchise, nabbing a chance to star after walking away from his first season single. But who's slightly below Martinez on the popularity scale?  Sean Lowe Should Martinez not accept the job, Csincsak predicts that Sean Lowe from Maynard's season would be the network's second choice, with Luyendyk falling in third. As Csincsak says, "Whenever you look at someone, the first thing that your brain reacts upon is visual appeal" — and Lowe certainly has the look that the producers have in mind. Of course, a Bachelor would have to "be able to make good television," according to Csincsak — and based on Sean's popularity at the Men Tell All special, it seems like he could fit the bill.  The Wildcard? Unfortunately for those of you aching for change, based on history, it doesn't seem likely ABC will choose a random contestant for the next season of The Bachelor. "I would say the chances are in the single digit percentile," Csincsak says. "They use to: They did Prince Lorenzo Borghese, and Jesse Palmer was pro football player. Those were the good old days. Now, all they are doing is rolling one into the next." (Out of the previous 16 Bachelor seasons, 10 stars were new to the franchise.  But what about the criticism (and lawsuit) surrounding the fact that The Bachelor has televised 16 white-washed seasons (and eight seasons of The Bachelorette)? And the grassroots support for Lamar Hurd, the charming sportscaster hoping to bring diversity to the series? Cscinsak thinks the selection of a non-white Bachelor could seem disingenuous following the lawsuit, which was filed in April. "[The series] would do more damage to their PR image at this point by trying to all of a sudden bring someone in," Csincsak says. "That would do more damage than good." Plus, ABC is better-served choosing a Bachelor America already knows and loves, rather than taking a gamble on a new, and possibly obnoxious, star. (Let the viewers hate the familiar after the season finishes!) "America has got to love you," Csincsak says. "That's the most important. That's 70 percent of how they pick you. You have to be professional whether you're an athlete or a TV personality. If they can have a guy that America loves, fans are going to tune in no matter what happens on the show." So who will be the next Bachelor? Only time will tell... For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past 24 hours, it's about high time you learned that Emily Maynard is happily engaged to Jef Holm. During the season finale of The Bachelorette on Monday night, Jef asked for Emily's hand in marriage. But while this is the third time Emily has accepted a proposal (she was briefly engaged to racecar driver Ricky Hendrick in 2004 before he passed away, and then walked away as Brad Womack's fianceé after Season 15 of The Bachelor), this seems like the first time Emily has put on a ring that could possibly last her a lifetime. And even if she has rocked a Neil Lane gem before (Brad gave her one that different reports valued between $50,000 and $90,000) — this new Neil Lane stunner seems like the winner. The emerald-cut diamond, that is roughly 3.5 carats, is estimated to be worth somewhere between $60,000-70,000, a jewelry expert tells Take a look at the diamond below and tell us you aren't jealous. While Emily may not be an A-list celebrity, she is still sporting a pretty expensive blinger! • 'Dark Knight' Shooting Press Conference: 70 Shot, 12 Dead, 58 Wounded — UPDATE
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 20, 2012
UPDATE: Aurora, Colo. authorities have updated the number of those shot to 70. Police Chief Dan Oates also announced details surrounding the suspect's booby-trapped apartment. Read more here.  EARLIER: Just hours after a lone gunman opened fire at an Aurora, Colo., screening of The Dark Knight Rises, the local police department held a press conferences to update a concerned public about the tragedy. According to the Dan Oates, Aurora Police Department Chief, the tragic shooting left 71 shot, 12 dead, and 59 wounded. Oates confirmed the identity of the suspect, 24-year-old James Holmes, a former graduate student at the University of Colorado Medical School who had no criminal record outside one traffic summons.   But perhaps more chilling than the idea of a med student with a spotless record allegedly unleashing a shooting spree in the theaters was Oates' account of the tragedy itself. "This event began at 39 minutes after midnight," he told reporters. "You can describe it as hundreds of calls coming in." Police responded to the scene within a minute to a minute-and-a-half and apprehended Holmes outside the theater. Oates says the alleged shooter was found "with three weapons in his car." According to officials, Holmes entered the theater and allegedly "set off two devices to distract that crowd" that released irritants or smoke. Oates described the shooter as being dressed in all black, wearing a ballistic helmet, ballistic vest, ballistic leggings, throat and groin protectors, black tactical gloves, and a gas mask. There were nearly 200 witnesses to the shooting. Police, have not considered motive behind the incident, but, "at this time, we are confident he acted alone," according to Oates. In total, approximately 200 officers reported to the scene. Oates confirmed that out of the 12 people who died, two passed away at local hospitals and 10 were dead at the scene. The alleged shooter's home is also under investigation at this time. "His apartment is booby trapped," Oates told reporters. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper encouraged citizens to stay strong while watching the horror unfold on their TV screens. "There are no words that can express the intensity of this tragedy," he said. "This is the act of a very deranged mind. This is a safe city, safe state, and safe country. [Pain] — we can't let it keep us from our lives. Colorado is a state that has always come together. We will come back stronger than ever from this although it will be a very hard process." Mayor Steve Hogan also spoke at the conference and encouraged parents to maintain a dialogue with their children to ease them through the tragedy. "Clearly this is a tragic day," he said. "It is an absolute horror for all the people who were in the theater. We will always wish... that we had done more. We need to thank everybody who responded as quickly as they did. We've taken a blow today, but we will get back on our feet and we will move ahead. If I can say anything to our citizens, it's talk to them [the kids]. We have to do our duty as parents... talk to our kids, let them know this is an isolated incident. We've got to talk about it. You can't have that many people die and that many more be injured, and not see it as tough." • 'Dark Knight Rises' Shootings: NYPD to Secure All Movie Theaters
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 20, 2012
In the wake of the shooting at a Dark Knight Rises midnight screening in Aurora, Colo., that left 12 dead and 38 wounded Friday morning, the New York Police department has decided to provide coverage at all theaters in its jurisdiction. "As of now, they are starting coverage because there [are] some theaters that started showing it at midnight," NYPD spokesperson Detective Marc Nell tells Nell tells theaters in all five boroughs will be secured, though the NYPD is not sure of the duration of the increased security at this time.  While the NYPD will be at the theaters, they will not be patrolling inside the theaters. Nell tells that authorities will be securing areas outside of the buildings. ("We're just covering the location," Detective Nell says.) Despite the increased security surrounding theaters, moviegoers headed to the movies this weekend won't be searched by NYPD or metal detector. "We wouldn't be involved in screening anyone who goes into private property," he says. West Coast law enforcement agencies are also taking precautions following the tragedy. "Our units have been directed to give extra patrol to the theaters, especially those that would have a midnight showing of the Batman movie," Sergeant Chuck Slater of the LAPD Hollywood Area says. "Just providing extra patrol when they can in between calls for service when they can." Immediately after learning about the Aurora shooting Friday morning, LAPD Hollywood Area sent a unit to one of the five theaters in their jurisdiction, the Arclight Theater, in order to debrief the theater on security measures. "We just advised them regarding security and [stood] by until the movie started," Sgt. Slater says. "There were no incidents at all. Everybody in the crowd was orderly."
