By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 19, 2012
Tennis fans, prepare for your world to shatter after you read this statement: RAFAEL NADAL HAS DROPPED OUT OF THE OLYMPICS! Yes, you read it correctly. The 26-year-old superstar broke this extremely disappointing news on Thursday. "I am not in condition to compete in the London Olympics and therefore will not travel as planned with the Spanish delegation to take part in the Games," Rafa said in a statement, according to ESPN.com. While he may not have been on the United States' team — he was part of Spain's squad — Nadal no doubt has tons of American supporters. And for his fans, this is just a huge let down, especially when we thought he was going to set a new record. After winning the singles gold medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Nadal could have had a shot at being the first Olympian to ever win consecutive gold medals in the singles category — but now, that's not going to happen. While Nadal does not describe a specific injury as his reason for stepping down, he has not played since he lost to Lukas Rosol (yeah, that was a sucky day) in the second round at Wimbledon last month. But at least he stepped down with good intentions. "I have to think about my companions, I can't be selfish and I have to think of what's best for Spanish sport, especially tennis and Spanish players, and give fellow sportsmen with better preparation the chance to compete," he said. "I tried to hurry my preparations and training to the very last minute, but it was not to be." Nadal, who is currently still ranked as the number three player in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals, was also set to carry the Spanish flag at the opening ceremony in London. Nadal added: "[This] is one of the saddest days of my career as one of my biggest ambitions, that of being Spain's flag bearer in the opening ceremony of the Games in London, cannot be. You can imagine how difficult it was to take this decision." Boo! Why did this have to happen?! By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 19, 2012
Yes, it's really going to happen: a little pickle is about to be born. In less than two months, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi is expected to give birth to her first child. And while many people thought that Snooki's pregnancy was just a made up hoax to gain some headlines, all you have to do is take a look at these new pics of the 24-year-old Jersey Shore star to know that it's no joke. The baby is coming! The reality starlet stepped out on Thursday to launch her limited edition Snooki's Wild Cherry Soda at The Rocket Fizz Soda Pop & Candy Shop in Hollywood, Calif. — and you can clearly tell she is well into her third and final trimester. In a form-fitting black dress, Snooki leaves little to be imagined at this point in time... either that, or it's just a pretty damn good fake pregnancy pad. With her due date just around the corner, are you excited to see what kind of mom Snooki will turn out to be? Do you think she will be taking her baby to bars, making trouble on the boardwalk, and dressing the baby in leopard jumpsuits? Or, will she be staying at home raising the baby in some unexpected wholesome manner with the help of her fiancé/baby daddy Jionni LaValle? • 'Dark Knight Rises': The Evolution of the Batmobile
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 17, 2012
The Batmobile. Yep, pretty much the coolest concept car ever dreamed up. While that's a pretty bold statement, this superhero ride is so wildly popular that even real-life celebrities like Justin Bieber try to imitate the design with their everyday cruisers. But, while replicas play a big part in how the Batmobile makes its name around the world, the vehicle also enjoys an intriguing history. Like the actors who step in and out of Batman's shoes over the years, the Batmobile has boasted a different look since original concept was placed in the pages of Detective Comics in 1941. So how did the Batmobile look when it first revved its engine? Scroll below to see the evolution of the car... and to be convinced to start saving your hard-earned money for one of your own. (If only our superpower was becoming the CEO of Wayne Enterprises!)   Batmobile Model No. 1 Model: The first model — a surprisingly bright red convertible — appeared in Detective Comics #48 in 1941. According to BatmobileHistory.com, design inspiration was based on the Cord 812. Special Features: A supercharged engine that allowed Batman to reach incredible speeds. Plus, it was more powerful than any locomotive Superman could beat — It could smash through buildings withstanding damage. Where It's on Display: Collectors of old cars still have models of the Cord 812 that have been preserved. Cameos Over the Years: A Cord 812 appeared in the video game "Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven," and in the 1965 flick Where the Spies Are. Up Next: The '60s Version!Batmobile Model No. 2 Model: The vehicle that made its debut in the Batman TV series in 1965 was a souped-up Lincoln Futura. Special Features: Automatic Turbo engine, chain cutter, lasers, rockets, car phone, dash monitor, radar, smoke machine, ram used to take out doors, backwards camera, a 180-degree Bat-turn, and (gasp!) a computer. Which means 1965's Batman was still more technologically advanced than we are. Get on it, Watson! Where It's on Display: A replica can be seen at the Cars of the Stars Motor Museum in Keswick, England. Cameos Over the Years: The car appeared in the 1979 show Legends of the Superheroes, but have shown up in The Simpsons, Rock Star, The Man Show, The Benchwarmers, and the comic series Justice. To the TV pop culture vault! Next Up: Movie Takeover! Batmobile Model No. 3 Model: From the 1989 movie Batman, this model was powered by a V8 engine and had it's own body style designed by Anton Furst. Special Features: Recognition system controlled by Batman's voice, Browning machine guns, spherical bombs, ability to use hooks and spin itself in a 180-degree turn, armor plated body, dispensers for oil, smoke machine, a Batmissile mode that allowed the car to fit through narrow areas, and a self-diagnosis system. So the Batmobile no longer had to go on WebMD to find out it either had cancer or was pregnant.   Where It's on Display: Replicas can be seen at Warner Bros. Movie World in Australia and Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Ill. Cameos Over the Years: OnStar commercials, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Next Up: Movie Takeover — The Sequel! Batmobile Model No. 4 Model: The 1995 Batman Forever machine was a unique design created by Barbara Ling. She attempted to make it look like the car actually had ribs and wings, but, thankfully, not Batnipples. Special Features: The car has multiple specialty defense mechanisms. It can make quick turns via a multi-wheel locking mechanism, and it can scale vertical walls by utilizing its grappling cables and jet exhaust. Take that, Spider-Man.  Where It's on Display: The car was purchased by a private buyer in 2011 from Warner Bros, according to Paul Fraser Collectibles. But the purchase agreement prevents the buyer from driving the car in public unless he is taking the machine to get repaired. Legalities, schmegalities. Cameos Over the Years: The car has been seen in The Drew Carey Show and not seen in Russell Brand's 2011 flop, Arthur. Next Up: Movie Takeover — The Threequel! Batmobile Model No. 5 Model: The version used in Batman & Robin in 1997 was based on a Jaguar D Type and Delahaye 165. Special Features: Bladed fins, two way video chat screen (is this where Apple got it's technology idea from?), Redbird cutoff switch, radar, and the ability to turn George Clooney into an A-list star in spite of an embarrassing Batsuit.  Where It's on Display: Thousands of nerds got a chance to feat their eyes on the car at Comic-Con 2012. Cameos Over the Years: None! Clooney isn't  he only one who'd prefer to forget about Batman & Robin.  Next Up: Movie Takeover — Part 4: Electric Boogaloo! Batmobile Model No. 6 Model: The Batman Begins prototype that debuted in 2005 was based on a military vehicle called The Tumbler. It's powered by a 500-HP Chevy 350 V8 engine and likely costs more than the amount of money you spent to see the film 63,973 times.  Special Features: This car features a system that switches the car into attack mode in the course of one second. While under normal conditions, the driver controls the car from the left side of the vehicle, in attack mode, the driver moves to the middle of the car and lies face down with his head between the front wheels for protection. The car is also equipped with a pair of machine guns in the front. So, essentially, it's badass.  Where It's on Display: In 2008, the Tumbler was shown off at the Scotiabank Theatre, Toronto. ComicBookMovie.com also has a schedule of where the Tumbler and Bat-Pod can be seen throughout the rest of the month of July. Cameos Over the Years: A souped up version appears in The Dark Knight, and is also said to appear in The Dark Knight Rises. • Tom Cruise Finally Visits Suri in NYC — PIC
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 17, 2012
Father and daughter reunite! On Tuesday morning, Tom Cruise arrived in New York City to spend some quality time with Suri, 6, who has been living with her mother, Katie Holmes, since Holmes filed for divorce just over two weeks ago. Cruise was spotted carrying Suri around the streets of the Big Apple shortly after his arrival — and this is the first time he has gotten to see his daughter since he and Holmes agreed to a settlement on July 7. According to the agreement, Holmes gets primary custody of Suri, while Cruise has visitation rights. But the 50-year-old actor agreed to the terms because he wants what's best for his little girl. "They both love their daughter," a source told People.com at the time. "And Tom thinks she should be with her mother." Now it's just a matter of Cruise getting time with his little girl — and it looks like he's determined to make that happen. • Kim Kardashian, Russell Brand, and More: Celebrities Inspired by Batman Fashion
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 16, 2012
He’s a mysterious millionaire who has made it his mission to protect the city of Gotham. But while Batman’s dark, do-gooder aura makes him one of the most attractive movie characters in superhero movie history , there’s something else about him that makes him even more appealing: his fashion sense. Sure, Wonder Woman’s shorts show off her long legs and Spider-Man has some nice biceps, but no other superhero can rock spandex — and, occasionally, nipple suit armor — the way Bruce Wayne can. But Batman isn’t the only character in Gotham to boast some rockin’ threads. Catwoman zips up into a super-sexy, skintight Latex suit, and even Poison Ivy gets a piece of the action with her fierce red hair and shimmery, summer green dress. And celebrities want in on the game too — Batman and his entourage aren't the only ones to slap on some Bat-spandex. • Madonna's International Flesh-Fest Tour: Now She Flashes Paris — VIDEO & PICS
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 16, 2012
At 53 years old, Madonna sure has no reservations about tearing off her clothes and putting on a show... an international show, in fact. As Madonna has toured around the world this summer, she's been shedding off pieces of clothes and baring her most private assets to her fans in the audience along the way. So, her MDNA tour no longer seems to be a name for her traveling show, but rather an abbreviation for "Madonna's Daringly Naked Adventures" tour. Last month, the pop queen shocked 55,000 fans in Istanbul when she revealed her right breast for all to see. Next, she mooned all of Rome when she pulled down her pants during a concert on June 5. But most recently, Madonna has decided to combine her two special stunts for a prized performance in Paris, where she debuted her left breast and took off her pants, exposing her butt to 80,000 fans on Saturday. It's just Madonna's "Human Nature" to be so brazen. Maybe that's why she always chooses to flaunt her bare skin during performances of her 1995 hit. She clearly has "No Fear" as she had the words written on her back during her Paris strip show. Maybe someone should leave 1989 in the past and realize that it's now 2012? Just an idea. But, tell us what you think — is Madonna getting out of control with all of her flash fests? If you dare, watch her most recent one in Paris below. • Kate Middleton's Bikini Controversy: PhotoShopped to Look Thinner?
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 12, 2012
Australia's weekly tabloid Woman's Day is cooking up controversy with its new cover, revealing supposed never-before-seen photos of Prince William and Kate Middleton on their honeymoon. The surreal cover pic raises a lot of questions: 1) Why are these photos coming out a year after their actual honeymoon? 2) How were they taken? 3) Does William shop in Scott Disick's closet? And most importantly, 4) Are the photos even real? Most of the media attention has focused on Middleton's tiny body in a black bikini. But was she put on the PhotoShop diet to look thinner? Hollywood.com reached out to media experts to weigh in. One photo editor at an American celebrity magazine believes that the image has been PhotoShopped. "She looks skinnier," says the editor. "I feel like the hips are not in proportion to her shoulders. Her shoulders look wider than they should be." Plus, "I'm not 100 percent convinced it's a real shot." But another industry expert says it's tough to tell. "Maybe, above the hip by the waist. [The magazine] could have brought it in a little bit, but it's tough to say." The expert does believe that parts of the picture were absolutely altered. "The background is PhotoShopped. Halfway up the magazine where the water turns back into sand, and that huge fuzzy line, that's not real. Why she's missing her legs with the drop text doesn't make any sense." Whether this specific cover has been airbrushed or not, both of our industry sources agree that it's common procedure to morph images for covers of magazines. "It's done a lot; you have to sell magazines," says our expert. "It happens all the time. Pictures are put together — we joke and say that they are paintings. They're not photographs," adds the editor. Back in April, the question of magazines PhotoShopping images was brought to the forefront when a middle school girl petitioned Seventeen magazine to include at least one unaltered photo spread in each issue.  In response, in the magazine's August issue, Editor-in-Chief Anne Shoket shared a body peace treaty that states Seventeen will "never change girls' body or face shapes," and will "celebrate every kind of beauty in our pages." Her staff will also now include behind-the-scenes photos on the magazine's Tumblr page revealing what occurs during an actual photo shoot. While Seventeen has addressed the issue, the question about Middleton still remains: Do you think her body was PhotoShopped? Follow Lindsey on Twitter @LDiMat. • 'Bachelorette' Fantasy Suite: Past Winner Reveals 10 Scandalous Secrets
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 10, 2012
Every season, fans tune in for the most intoxicating episode of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette known as the overnight dates installment. Because well, up until this point in the season, all of the making out and kissing, it doesn't quite do it for us. And while Emily Maynard refused to spend the night with her final three contenders — Sean, Jef, and Arie — during Monday night's episode, that's not usually the case. We usually get to see a little bit more action like Ben Flajnik sucking Courtney Robertson's tongue in the hot tub or Vienna Girardi slamming the door in the camera's face as she falls into bed in nothing but lingerie with her former fiance Jake Pavelka. This season may have a been a little more on the non-pervy side — but former Bachelorette winner (from DeAnna Pappas' season) Jesse Csincsak shares 10 scandalous secrets with Hollywood.com exclusively of what goes on behind closed doors in the fantasy suites. Do the couples have sex? Is protection provided? Are the producers getting to see some porn scenes from the footage that they caught? All these questions and more are answered. So, read on to fulfill your deep, dark Bachelorette curiosity. 1. Producers don't push couples to hook up. "Not really hook up, but they want a scandalous bath tub scene," Csincsak says. "Once it gets down to final three, you are on your own. You're sailing your own boat. There's no more captain." He adds: "You always see a poured bath that's drawn in all these fantasy suites. Every season they always try to get people to go in the bathtub together." But that's about it. "It never happens." 2. People do have sex, though, behind closed doors. "The fact that she [Maynard] didn't blows my mind," says Csincsak. "Have you ever thought about being engaged to a guy that you hadn't been with? You don't buy a car without beating the sh*t out of it first. Anything that you are going to have that is expensive or for the long-run, you touch it, feel it, squeeze it, break it. That's the society we live in." RELATED: Reality Steve Responds to ABC Lawsuit 3. There are no cameras filming the sex scenes. "[Most of] the cameras that are used for the production of The Bachelor are shoulder ridden," explains Csincsak. "Everything is a big camera. There's no way to just mount one in the corner." He says that, though, at a certain point the cameras leave and the couples are left alone... somewhat. 4. But producers can hear what goes on in the fantasy suites. "There's never a microphone free moment," Csincsak admits. "They will take the microphone off of you, but everywhere they put you, they have those rooms wired. No camera, [but] they can hear audio, what you are talking about. They'll need to be able to produce you the next day if you come up with a grand scheme. Potentially yes, [they can hear your sex noises]." 5. Producers provide protection for couples. "There's everything you need to be good about it," says Csincsak. "That's what I mean by they make it very safe." 6. There's no down time between the one-night stands. "It's back to back to back," Csincsak states. "Four nights in a row or three nights in a row. Most people that are on the show have never watched the show. That's how they cast you. You don't know how it works. You don't realize that's what's going on right in front of your eyes. After the show is over, you realize what you saw. It's hindsight." RELATED: Trista Sutter's 'Bachelorette' Blog: Breaking Down the Final Three 7. The bubblies are provided to help set the mood. "There's always champagne every where you go," notes Csincsak. "Champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries." 8. Host Chris Harrison doesn't write the fantasy suite cards. "Producer Casey writes those," Csincsak shares. "It's a gold mine of awkward talking. That was the coolest part about Jef [from Monday's episode] — that he didn't wait for the card. He just went boom, bring the awkwardness right out. The dude was so good at it. That was all him. If you plan on doing it, its not so awkward. He was probably the only one who was like, 'I got this.'" 9. Producers don't feed lines on how to say yes or no when the cards arrive. "They give you topics, and I guarantee Sean was coached through it," says Csincsak. "Jef was the only one really on it." 10. Runner-ups do get pissed that they had sex and then got dumped. "I probably would be," Csincsak says. "This season it's not going to be the case, but contestants do talk after the show." At this point in the season, production seems to give Bachelors and Bachelorettes more free reign. Whatever happens behind closed doors remains there... unless the stars decide to dish themselves. "Once it gets down to the final four and the production factor goes off, there's no tension in the room," says Csincsak. "No cameras in your face. It's when you actually get to be yourself. And get to know the other person. When it goes to final 4-3, this is when things become normal." (Well, if you call meeting your boyfriend or girlfriend on national television normal, then yeah!) • Katie Holmes Gets Primary Custody — Suri Won't Be Living with Tom Cruise
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 10, 2012
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's divorce is turning out to be no battle at all. Instead of putting up a fight for custody, Cruise has reportedly agreed to let their 6-year-old daughter Suri reside with Holmes in New York City, People is reporting. But, Cruise is sure to get plenty of visitation with his daughter. The issue of physical custody was reportedly included in the settlement that the former couple reached on Monday. "They both love their daughter," a source says. "And Tom thinks she should be with her mother." It seems that Cruise didn't want this divorce to turn into a nasty battle (focused on by the media) that would hurt his daughter. "[Cruise] didn't want his family dragged through the mud," the source states. "Neither one of them wanted this to be hashed out in public." Sources add that Holmes plans to enroll Suri in a private school in NYC this fall. This is a big change for the little girl who has for so long been educated by tutors. "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests," Cruise and Holmes' reps released in a statement on behalf of their clients after the settlement had been reached. "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."
