  • Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Settle Divorce: New Details
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 09, 2012
Well, that was fast. Almost two weeks after Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, the A-list exes reached a settlement, avoiding a drawn-out case that would invite plenty of headlines. Holmes' attorney Jonathan W. Wolfe released this statement to relaying the news: “The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed." "We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life," the attorney continues. "This result could not have been achieved without the hard work of my partner Gary Skoloff and our co-counsel Allan Mayefsky, Michael Mosberg and Larry Trachtenberg of Aronson Mayefsky and Sloan and Peter Walzer and Chris Melcher of Walzer & Melcher in California." While the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, it seems Cruise's camp hardly put up a fight. "We thank Tom’s counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution," Holmes' attorney says. Holmes and Cruise's reps also released a statement to People on behalf of their clients: "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents." First, much beloved English singer-songwriter Adele announced on June 29 that she is expecting her first baby with her boyfriend Simon Konecki. But the excitement doesn't end there. The Mirror UK is now reporting that another English recording artist is getting ready to have a baby. According to the report, Lily Allen is pregnant with her second child! “Lily has started telling her friends and everybody in her close circle is so excited for her," a friend of the singer says. And, Allen (who has added her husband Sam Cooper's last name to her own) doesn't really seem to be denying the news. "Thank you for all your congratulations today," she tweeted Sunday. "I honestly couldn't be happier. such an honour to be on the list !?#Timestop50tweeters" Allen and Cooper sure do have a growing family. After the couple said, "I do," in June 2011, they welcomed the birth of their first child — a little girl that they named Ethel Mary — on November 25. • Will Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s Divorce Be a Public Battle?
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 06, 2012
Celebrity divorces are surefire headline-makers. Did the break-up involve scandal? Infidelity? Dozens of media outlets, and millions of fans, clamor to know — especially when the divorce involves one of the most famous A-list couples in Hollywood. So the question lingers: Just how public can we expect the (so far) very public break-up between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise to be? Immediately following the June 29 announcement that Holmes had filed papers, speculation ran rampant regarding what, if anything, we would learn about the dissolution of the marriage. Many outlets ran stories claiming Holmes had filed an emergency custody hearing in the attempt to use publicity to win sole custody of the couple's 6-year-old daughter, Suri. The actress, however, filed an anonymous captions order. "The reports about an emergent filing last Friday are incorrect," Holmes' attorney Jonathan W. Wolfe tells in a statement. "Other than her action for divorce, the only pending application filed by Ms. Holmes remains her request for an anonymous caption.” In fact, it seems Holmes is actively seeking privacy. Chris Mancini, an attorney from Miami, Fla., explains that if the actress' request is granted, her divorce papers would use initials instead of real names. It's a move that would make any dirt-seeking reporter's job much more difficult. "When you file an anonymous caption case, what you're hoping is that people are not going to be given access to the files in a timely fashion so that the reporting that accompanies the divorce does not disrupt what the parties are trying to get done," he says. While this anonymous captions edit would protect Holmes and Cruise if the divorce is settled in New York, a relocation to California could make Holmes' divorce much more difficult — and much more public. After all, anonymous captioning isn't permitted in California. Still, there are ways of keeping a divorce quiet. "Celebrities will [try to] work it out between the lawyers," says Gloria Allred, a Los Angeles-based attorney who has handled many high-profile cases. "Sometimes they will hire a private judge, a mediator, to try to work it out confidentially and privately. It usually results in a confidential settlement, in which neither party can discuss the settlement. Many celebrities are taking the alternative dispute resolution path." There are also ways Holmes and Cruise can actively avoid the press. "In certain cases, the parties themselves sign a non-disclosure agreement," New York Matrimonial Attorney Sherri Donovan says. "And [in some cases], the judge will order a hush order that the parties and their attorney are not to speak to the press." The legal system is conscious of how divorce proceedings affect public image and a family, which is why celebrity divorce records are often sealed to protect the welfare of a couple's young children. Any reporters hoping for salacious details surrounding Holmes' and Cruise's marriage will likely be disappointed, thanks to young Suri. "These custody records are supposed to be sealed," says Donovan. "They are supposed to be kept confidential." Mancini echoes Donovan: "That a sensitive age, so they have to keep an eye on what gets released." Young celebrity off-spring aren't always so lucky. After Britney Spears' split with Kevin Federline in 2006, fans saw much of the divorce played out on the pages of magazine covers, with details about visitation rights surrounding their two children, Sean and Jayden James, making headlines. But reporters weren't quite to blame — the couple reacted publicly to their own high-profile split. "Britney was all over the place and they commented on their own cases," Donovan says. "They even had press people comment on the situation."  Other A-list break-ups have been far more tactful. "For instance, Seal and his wife [Heidi Klum] did it very high level," Donovan says, citing an example of how proceedings can work privately. "They both decided to take a more private route. They worked out their own amicable agreement that may or may not have been filed. They made an effort to keep it private." Based on the anonymous caption filing and the request for privacy, it seems Cruise and Holmes may be able to follow in Klum and Seal's footsteps, but as the divorce proceedings continue on, each party may decide to take an alternative route. Also, there's always that pesky press — information does find a way of leaking. Either way, the Holmes/Cruise break-up will likely be a public divorce regardless of their intentions. • Move Over Renesmee Cullen: It's a 'Twilight' Baby Boom
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 06, 2012
Edward Cullen and Bella Swan aren't the only Twilight characters that are procreating. Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper Hale in the series, and his real-life girlfriend Sheila Hafsadi welcomed the birth of their first baby, a bouncing boy named Monroe, on Thursday, Rathbone's rep tells People. Following the trend is Cam Gigandet, who played James in Twilight, and his partner Dominique Geisendorff are expecting their second child, is reporting. Maybe all of the Twilight stars can set up a big play-date for their kids. Gigandet and Geisendorff already have a 3-year-old daughter named Everleigh — but too bad Renesmee won't be able to participate though. She would have to pull a Pinocchio and become a real girl in order to fit in with this bunch. More: Rachel McAdams Should Get Pregnant ASAP! PIC Matthew McConaughey Expecting His Third Child

  • Amazing Spider-Men: Stacking Up Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire
By: Lindsey DiMattina Jul 03, 2012
Ten years ago, we headed to the cineplex to watch Spider-Man duke it out with the Green Goblin. But in The Amazing Spider-Man, which hit theaters Tuesday, we have a new villain to root against: The Lizard. Oh yeah — and a new hero. In Marc Webb's reboot of the franchise, Sam Raimi's main man, Tobey Maguire, has been replaced by 28-year-old Andrew Garfield. It's a difficult adjustment for die-hard fans of the 2002 origin story. So to prep you for the transition, we've decided to take a deep dive into the two actors and break down their Hollywood pasts and presents. Biggest Box Office Maguire: Maguire's best showing in theaters was, in fact, the original Spider-Man, which came out in 2002. According to's own Paul Dergarabedian, the movie earned $403,706,375. Garfield: Garfield's highest-grossing role was Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin in 2010's The Social Network. According to Dergarabedian, it made $96,962,694 — and Garfield a household name. Clout in the Industry Maguire: Maguire hasn't secured Hollywood's most coveted statue (the Oscar), but the actor was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2010 for Brothers. He lost to Crazy Heart's Jeff Bridges. Garfield: Newcomer Garfield has hardly had an opportunity to capture the Academy's attention, but was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 2011 for The Social Network. He lost to The Fighter's Christian Bale. Swoon-Worthiness Maguire: Maguire was quite popular with teen audiences of 2002. Though his popularity with young girls has waned since he first slapped on spandex — instead catering to a more adult crowd with movies like Brothers — Maguire's Spider-Man did cause a sensation when he dangled upside down for a kiss with Mary Jane (played Kirsten Dunst). The kiss also won Maguire the Best Kiss MTV Movie Award that same year. (Who needs ya, Oscar?!) Lord knows he had our vote! Garfield: Though many college students "Liked" the Brit in The Social Network, Garfield has yet to break through to the Twilight fan base. Some shirtless Amazing Spider-Man scenes should solve that... Spider-Man Distinction Maguire: In Maguire's years, Spider-Man's arch-enemy was the Green Goblin. Mary Jane Watson was played by Kirsten Dunst. Peter Parker graduated from high school in the first movie. Oh, and not to mention, he was in three Spider-Man movies all together. Garfield: In Garfield's version, Spider-Man is fighting The Lizard. Mary Jane does not exist. Instead, Spider-Man's love interest is Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone (Garfield's real-life girlfriend). And, Peter Parker remains in high school throughout the whole movie. Are you sad that a new Spider-Man has replaced our beloved Tobey Maguire — or do you think that Garfield will be able to hold his own on the comics screen? Big Ang: You know her, you love her, you watch her regularly on The Soup even if you don't watch Mob Wives. Not only is the reality star known as the fun-loving, no drama, tell-it-to-you-like-it-is sort of gal, but she is also one to be quite candid about her multiple body enhancing surgeries, which include three boob jobs, a tummy tuck, liposuction, and of course, lip injections. This brings us to her lips — the most infamous lips to ever pucker up and blow a kiss in reality world.  Or are they? (M. Night Shyamalan says "Twist!") In Sunday night's episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kardashian momager Kris Jenner showed up on the screen with a mighty puffy pout. While some believe that she had undergone a Collagen or Restylane treatment to enhance herself, Jenner claimed that her blown-up lips were the result of a food allergy.
