  • 'Hunger Games' Actor Jeffrey Wright Arrested For Drunk Driving
By: Michelle Lee Apr 28, 2013
Hunger Games: Catching Fire actor Jeffrey Wright was arrested after being pulled over by police in New York City for driving erratically in the wee hours Saturday morning. The 47-year-old actor was reportedly busted at 3 a.m. in the Lower East Side when cops questioned him and smelled alcohol.  The veteran actor — who's also starred in films such asCasino Royale, Presumed Innocent, and Source Code — then failed a sobriety test and was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving. Interestingly, Wright got his bachelor's degree in political science and planned to attend law school but decided to study acting instead. After attending New York University for just two months, he quit to pursue acting full-time. (Although that law degree would've come in handy now!) Next up, we'll be seeing Wright play Beetee in the second installment of the popular Hunger Games franchise, which hits theaters on November 2. And, of course, in his inevitable crazy celebrity mugshot.  MORE: 9 New 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' PortraitsDesigners Sketch Katniss' 'Hunger Games' Wedding GownMeet the New 'Catching Fire' Cast From Our Partners:Miley Goes Braless for Magazine Cover (Celebuzz)33 Child Stars: Where Are They Now? • Michael Jordan Marries Model in Lavish 2,000-Guest Wedding: Photo!
By: Michelle Lee Apr 27, 2013
Michael Jordan, 50, married model Yvette Prieto, 35, in a lavish 2,000-guest wedding in Florida on Saturday. The star-studded event was built to rival any Trump wedding, in fact, the pair said their vows before 500 guests at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach — the church where Donald Trump married wife Melania in 2005. After the ceremony, another 1,500 guests joined the happy couple in Jupiter, Florida, for the reception at the Bears Club, a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course community. On Thursday, a crew of 50 staffers spent the day setting up three tents in the backyard and onlookers said of the spectacle, "I've never seen anything like it." Jordan, who now owns the Charlotte Bobcats, and Prieto met at a nightclub in 2008 and got engaged in 2011. The Cuban-American beauty also dated Julio Iglesias, Jr., who once said of her: "She's a fantastic girl and I like her. Aside from her beauty, which is obvious, she is loving, simple and very good person." PHOTOS: Most Surprising Celebrity Weddings The basketball legend, who lives nearby in a stunning 37,000-square-foot mansion in Jupiter, has been down the aisle before. He and wife of 18 years Juanita Vanoy split in 2006 and it was reported that their divorce settlement was possibly worth more than $150 million.  No expense was spared to make the couple's big day private. • Zach Braff Reaches $2 Million Kickstarter Goal: 'I Won't Let You Down'
By: Michelle Lee Apr 27, 2013
In just three days, Zach Braff has reached his goal and raised $2 million in a Kickstarter fund-raising campaign to film a follow-up to his 2004 movie Garden State. After seeing the success of Veronica Mars' campaign which generated $5.5 million in 30 days, the former Scrubs star appealed to fans to help finance his latest project Wish I Was Here, even promising gifts to the most generous donor.  Shortly after reaching his goal, an ecstatic Braff took to Twitter to thank fans. "28,000 Financiers in 3 days! Un-f--king I will not let you down. Let's go make a killer movie!" But not everyone's so thrilled. Many critics (including our own Brian Moylan and Kelsea Stahler) have questioned why fans are financing movies for millionaires and wondered whether resurrecting dead projects like Veronica Mars might actually sully our memories of our beloved projects in the long run.  It's no wonder why filmmakers see it as a viable and attractive route, though. As Braff explains, "Financing an independent film the traditional way often means having to give away your right to the final cut, casting choices, location choices and cutting down your script to make it shoot-able on the cheapest budget possible."  RELATED: The Veronica Mars Kickstarter Backlash Begins And with two major Kickstarter successes getting so much publicity, it's only a matter of time before we see another one. • Facebook Totally Thinks You're Fat If You 'Like' TV a Lot
By: Michelle Lee Apr 27, 2013
On Facebook, do you 'like' The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones? Or P90X and your local gym? Well, depending on your 'likes,' Mark Zuckerberg's social network can take a pretty educated guess if you're obese or not, according to a new study from Harvard Medical School.  Reseachers looked at Facebook users’ interests around the country. The more people 'liked' healthy and active lifestyle activities in an area, the less likely that region was to have a high obesity rate. On the other hand, the more people 'liked' television, the more likely that region was to have a high obesity rate. (And for some strange reason, the association was particularly high in New York City. Time to unplug for a few hours, New Yorkers?) Of course, this information could have potential ad targeting uses (Facebook thinks you're fat, here's this diet pill ad; you 'like' Taco Bell and Oreos, here's this coupon for Spinning classes). But scientists hope it could serve other public health purposes too, by identifying regions in which more obesity intervention is needed.  That may be true, but why do we feel so violated? • Lauryn Hill Confirms New Sony Record Deal, Slams Squatting Reports
By: Michelle Lee Apr 27, 2013
Lauryn Hill confirmed reports she's inked a lucrative new deal with Sony Records to launch her own record label and release new music. But in an open letter to fans on Tumblr, the 37-year-old Grammy winner denied details that had been out in the media, reporting that she'd earn a whopping $1 million for just five songs. "The nature of my new business venture, as well as the dollar amount reported, was inaccurate, only a portion of the overall deal," she wrote. (She had also taken to Tumblr earlier this week to deny reports she was facing eviction: "I am not squatting," she wrote.) The singer and mother of six has been plagued by financial and legal troubles for years. Hill pleaded guilty last year to three misdemeanor counts of tax fraud and still owed the government $504,000. She faces up to 36 months in jail, depending on whether she owes less or more than $1 million in civil liability.  After seeing huge global success with the Fugees and with her legendary 1997 album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Hill went into a self-imposed exile in 2000. She later talked about her struggle to Essence magazine, stating, "I had to confront my fears and master every demonic thought about inferiority, about insecurity or the fear of being black, young and gifted in this western culture." She's worked on a few collaborations since then and performed at Coachella and New Orleans JazzFest, but hasn't released an album since the '90s. Still, she denies rumors she's releasing new music simply to pay her tax bill: "I have been working towards this for a long time, not just because of my current legal situation, but because I am an artist, I love to create, and I need the proper platform to do so." Hill is due to be sentenced on May 6 (experts predict that her new Sony deal could keep her from doing jail time). But what do you think, readers: Would you buy a new Lauryn Hill record? Can she still be relevant in the age of Rihanna and Beyoncé? From Our Partners:Beyonce Flaunts Bikini Bod for H&M (Celebuzz)33 Child Stars: Where Are They Now? (Celebuzz)
  • Nicole Eggert Denies 'Splash' Diving Accident, Seems Confused
By: Michelle Lee Apr 20, 2013
Nicole Eggert is speaking out about a report from TMZ that she was rushed to the hospital after a horrifying diving accident on her ABC reality show Splash.  The site first reported that the former Baywatch star was seriously hurt after a dive including multiple backflips went very wrong.  The star took to her official Twitter account on Friday night, mysteriously denying the report: "Thnx 4 all the love but I am not in the hospital nor was I in a diving accident. Just have swelling and bruising on my back and kidney's. xo." Huh? Just a day earlier, the actress Tweeted: "The ER is always fun." Plus a spokesperson for the show confirmed the injury: "We can confirm that Nicole Eggert was injured after a bad landing during a 'Splash' taping earlier this week. She is currently consulting with a doctor," a spokesperson said Friday. What do you think: is she messing with the media or is she just on some good meds?  Serious accidents have already happened on the diving competition show: Beauty queen and viral sensation Katherine Webb was forced to leave the competition after a back injury while Chelsea Handler's sidekick Chuy Bravo quit after a heel injury. Extreme skier Rory Bushfield chose to stay but suffered a ruptured eardrum after performing a dive.
  • Proof That Fame Will Shorten Your Life Span
By: Michelle Lee Apr 19, 2013
Warning: Fame will kill you. Seriously. Researchers from Australia analyzed 1,000 obituaries in the New York Times and found that actors, singers, professional athletes, and other performers died at an average age of 77, while the average age of death for academics, like historians and economists was 82. Surprisingly, the hardiest of the bunch were businesspeople and politicians, who typically made it to the ripe old age of 83. The researchers are hesitant to draw any definitive conclusions about what's driving celebrities to the grave earlier. But, unshockingly, some speculate that it has a lot to do with all that hard living that stars do in their youth. (The study, from the University of Queensland, says that tumors in the lungs were more common in performers than in other professions.) Or could it be that all the stars who died in their 20s and 30s like Brittany Murphy, River Phoenix, and Heath Ledger drive down the average? • Kendall Jenner, 17, Would 'Love to' Model for Victoria's Secret, Of Course
By: Michelle Lee Apr 14, 2013
The Kardashians' half-sister Kendall Jenner reveals that she'd 'love to' to model lingerie for Victoria's Secret and that it's "always been kind of a dream of mine" in a new interview. The budding 17-year-old model and reality star, who already posed in a revealing bikini shoot when she was just 16, tells E! News that she'd love to go after her dream of becoming the next Miranda Kerr or Gisele Bundchen.  The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has already graced the pages of Seventeen magazine, Teen Vogue, and has done a campaign for Forever 21 and walked the runway at New York Fashion Week. But listen up, people, she's not looking to be just like her sister Kim Kardashian. In fact, she says that she and her younger sister Kylie are "full-throttle Jenners" and have no desire to be Kardashians. In the May 2013 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, Jenner explains that the TV show has been both a blessing and a curse — and that all of that paparazzi mugging just isn't her. "The show brought us everything we have, and I realize that, but sometimes I just want to be left alone and be a normal kid for like five minutes," she said. "That’s tough when the paparazzi are chasing you." And while the rest of her family stays focused on the reality spotlight, she's "one hundred percent" focused on modeling.  But if her dream of becoming a Victoria's Secret Angel comes true, do you really think that her momager Kris Jenner will let that experience go totally undocumented? Tell us, readers: Would the high-schooler wear the wings well or should she stick to reality TV? And is Kendall basically the only sort-of-Kardashian you can tolerate anymore?
