  • Ben Stiller Is Walking on Sunshine in a New 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' Poster
By: Jordan Smith Aug 29, 2013
20th Century Fox Our day just got a little bit brighter. After being treated to a quirky delight of a trailer last month, we get yet another taste of The Secret life of Walter Mitty by way of an official poster that’s just as satisfying. In the upcoming film based on a short story by James Thurber, Ben Stiller plays Walter Mitty, an office drone with his head in the clouds. Mitty lives out various adventures through his frequent daydreams but has to leave his dreams behind once adventure beckons in the real world. Joining Stiller are Patton Oswalt, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, and Sean Penn. The poster showcases Walter, briefcase in tow, running through a sun-soaked skyline, no doubt racing to his next big imaginary adventure. The film looks like the perfect injection of whimsy for a work weary world. Since Ben is doing all the heavy lifting for this project (directing, producing, and starring in the film) he might want to take a break and do some daydreaming himself after the movie comes out. • 'The Walking Dead': David Morrissey Joins New AMC Pilot, So What's Next for The Governor?
By: Jordan Smith Aug 28, 2013
Gene Page/AMC You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Governor on AMC this year, even outside of The Walking Dead.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Morrissey has been cast in the new AMC pilot Line of Sight. While this would normally mean certain death for Morrissey’s character on The Walking Dead, everyone’s favorite sadist isn’t finished with Rick and the gang just yet. Morrissey will split his time between the much-loved zombie drama and the new AMC pilot. In The Walking Dead, Morrissey plays The Governor, the crazed and power hungry leader of a survival camp. The Governor’s struggles against Rick and his group of survivors made up most of the plot of Season 3, so his possible absence would leave the show with big shoes to fill. Morrissey is confirmed to be returning as a series regular for Season 4 so The Governor is safe. For now anyway. While performing double duty might seem too taxing for even a talented actor like Morrissey, both shows will be shooting relatively close to each other. AMC said in a statement: "We are huge fans of David Morrissey and are glad he'll be doing double duty for AMC viewers through his work on The Walking Dead and our pilot for Line of Sight, both of which are produced in Atlanta." In the new Pilot, Line of Sight, Morrissey will portray Lewis Bernt, a National Transportation Safety Board Investigator who survives a horrific plane crash. Bernt struggles to cope emotionally while trying to uncover the cause of the mysterious crash. Season four of The Walking Dead premieres on October 13th. • Idris Elba's 'Luther' Is Getting a Movie (A Prequel!)
By: Jordan Smith Aug 28, 2013
BBC America Britain's finest export, Idris Elba, is set to hit theaters wearing a familiar grey overcoat. Even though we haven't had the pleasure of enjoying the third season of Luther in the states yet, a film featuring the hard-nosed cop is is already on its way. Writer and show creator Neil Cross told The Mirror that he has written a script for a Luther movie. The film will serve as a prequel to the critically acclaimed BBC series. At the Edinburugh TV Festival, Cross said, "Idris is a brilliant leading man and we've hoped to turn Luther into a movie for a long time. It will follow his career in the earlier days, when he is still married to Zoe, and the final scene in the film is the first of the initial TV series." The gritty crime drama has just wrapped up its third season in the U.K., and the show has enjoyed loads of success not only in Britain but across the pond in America as well. Making the Luther film a prequel rather than a sequel also opens up the possibility for old characters, deceased or otherwise, to join the detective for one more case. Which dearly departed character will we get to see in action, and will we get more insight into what makes the disgruntled cop tick? The third and final season of Luther premieres on Tuesday, Septermber 3 on BBC America. • 'We Are What We Are' Trailer Scares with Creepy Intensity, Not Excess Gore
By: Jordan Smith Aug 28, 2013
The trailer for We Are What We Are is just dripping with gothic imagery. It looks like the sort of film that riles up the senses and lets the tension scare you rather than relying on the blood splatter. The trailer is filled with stern glances, overly formal dinner scenes, and a lot of creepy prayer. Something foul is definitely going on with this family. In this remake of a 2010 Mexican film, the Catskills take the place of Mexico. During a stormy day, when the matriarch of a family dies due to a sudden illness, it's up to her husband and two children to carry on some secret family "traditions." Whatever these traditions may be, they probably have something to do with the human remains washing up on the riverbanks and the town's long list of missing persons dating back 20 years. The setting of the film looks to be a town with a deep history filled with secrets. One that isn't exactly friendly to curious eyes and ears. If the trailer is any indication, We Are What We Are looks like the type of slow burning creepy horror film for the festival crowd.  It's atmospheric and moody, and the eerie music builds until a final scene at the dinner table. I wonder what's being served? • Watch the 'Parkland' Trailer Tell the JFK Assassination Story From Intriguing New Perspectives
By: Jordan Smith Aug 27, 2013
When shots rang out on a November morning, the whole world was changed forever. The assassination of John F. Kennedy sent shockwaves throughout the entire country, but the new film Parkland focuses on the select few men and women who saw it happen. The film seems not to be so much about President Kennedy or his life, but more specifically on the unsung men and women who sprung to action after his death. Parkland showcases, from multiple perspectives, the race to save the President's life, the events of the investigation, and the life of the family of Lee Harvey Oswald. In a cast littered with Hollywood talent, Paul Giamatti plays the man who mistakenly captures the assassination on tape, Tom Welling and Billy Bob Thornton play secret service agents attempting to catch the shooter, and a scruffy Zac Efron plays a doctor tasked with saving the Commander-in-Chief's life. Open Road Films The cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden, Jackie Earl Haley, James Badge Dale, and Jacki Weaver. If the trailer is any indication, Parkland looks like the type of meaty historical drama that will have Oscar voters buzzing early next year. At the very least, the film looks to have the 1960's aesthetics nailed right down to the skinny ties and classic cars.
