By: Shannon Houston Nov 12, 2014
Getty Images/Rick Kern Fans of The Daily Show may be surprised to learn that Jon Stewart's directorial debut is not a comedy, nor even a satirical work. The host has taken on a big project—adapting Maziar Bahari's best-selling memoir, Then They Came for Me. The film, Rosewater, stars Gael García Bernal as the journalist who was imprisoned and tortured for over 100 days, following the 2009 Iranian election. Stewart has revealed new images from the project, and has also said that people may be surprised by the route he's taken: “It may not be what people expect from me; it’s not a comedy... I hope people view it for what it is—a love letter to expression and the importance of it. It’s everything.” Rosewater will premiere at TIFF this year, and will be out in limited release on November 14. • 'Girls' Star Zosia Mamet Says Her Eating Disorder Almost Killed Her
By: Shannon Houston Aug 12, 2014
HBO For many of us, Shoshanna on Girls is basically perfection. Sure, she has her flaws but she's ultimately amazing. And now we can say the same for the actress who plays Shoshanna, Zosia Mamet. In hopes of encouraging others to speak up, she is revealing personal details about her struggles with an eating disorder in Glamour magazine. Mamet begins by saying, "I've struggled with an eating disorder since I was a child... I tried to fight it alone for a long time. And I nearly died." She goes on to say that—although she was "never fat," the moment she was told by someone that she was fat, she began developing the disorder. She was eight years-old at the time. After a near-death experience around age seventeen, she now considers herself to be "an addict in recovery."  Mamet talks about family, her recovery process, and a society where the concept of being skinny "sells us everything, from vacations to underwear, effectively." • Poor Megan Fox Says She Can't Even Use The Bathroom Alone
By: Shannon Houston Aug 12, 2014
WENN Lest you think Megan Fox has it easier than non-celebrity moms, here are a few awesome quotes from her recent interview with Chelsea Handler: "You don't really have a life. You're home a lot. You don't sleep..."  "You don't even get to poop alone—you have to take the babies with you." And as far as her date nights with hubby Brian Austin Green? They spent the night in a hotel once, and it was very carefully calculated: "We did that one time and we made sure I wasn't ovulating because I didn't want to get pregnant again. Sorry! Too much information." No life, no sleep, no pooping in private? And date nights planned around your ovulation? Megan Fox has officially proven that she's just like the rest of us moms. • Sarah Michelle Gellar Calls Robin Williams 'The Father I Had Always Dreamed Of Having'
By: Shannon Houston Aug 12, 2014
CBS Fans the world over and all of Hollywood is in mourning today—and shall be for some time—over the shocking loss of Robin Williams. Yesterday Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred alongside the beloved comedian (and played his daughter) in The Crazy Ones, simply shared a lovely photo collage on Twitter. Today she has issued a statement through her representative, in which she loving calls Williams "the Father I had always dreamed of having": This is without question, the hardest few words I have ever tried to write. My life is a better place because I knew Robin Williams. To my children he was “Uncle Robin,” to everyone he worked with, he was the best boss anyone had ever known, and to me he was not just an inspiration but he was the Father I had always dreamed of having. There are not enough adjectives to describe the light he was, to anyone that ever had the pleasure to meet him. I will miss him everyday, but I know the memory of him will live on. And to his family, I thank them for letting us know him and seeing the joy they brought him. Us Crazy Ones love you. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

  • 'What If' Star Zoe Kazan Says We Need More Women Of Color In TV And Film
By: Shannon Houston Aug 10, 2014
CBS Films Zoe Kazan stars alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the new romantic comedy What If, and critics everywhere—including our own Michael Arbeiter—are applauding Michael Dowse's film for being a rare gem in its genre. Kazan (who also starred in and wrote the 2012 hit Ruby Sparks), delivers a fantastic performance as Chantry, a unique character  and a breath of fresh air for movie-goers. She's a young woman with her own charming quirks, who also has a career and a sense of moral responsibility we don't always see in these films. Off the stage, Kazan is also a unique sort. In an interview with Paste Magazine, she problematizes an industry that has favored her "type"—the funny, white girl: I would love to see more women of color represented. We have a lot of funny girls out there who are white girls, like Amy Schumer and Jenny Slate. And shows like Broad City are breaking through—and I’m all about that. I just would like to see more voices heard that don’t come from an upper-middle class, white culture. More diversity in media can only enrich entertainment and pop culture, so we're obviously on Team Kazan with this one. Here's hoping more actors start making similar statements as well. • Four Things Megan Fox's Bizarre Instagram Bio Taught Us
By: Shannon Houston Aug 10, 2014
WENN While we're thrilled that Megan Fox has joined the world of Instagram, we find her bio... a bit odd, though perhaps in all of the right ways. Of all the ways we've seen celebrities describe themseleves, these are probably the strangest. Here are the four things we learned from the descriptions on The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle star's incredibly bizarre Instagram page (she goes by "The_Native_Tiger" on there, BTW): 1. "Child of the Cherokee Tribe" She wants us to know she's part-Cherokee. Duly noted. 2. "forest nymph"  Actually, this bit conflicts with point number 4, as Wikipedia tells us that a nymph is quite different from a goddess.  3. "Lunar Leo" She's a Taurus, born under a Leo moon. Do with that information what you will. 4. "mother goddess to 2 bohemian revolutionaries" She considers her sons to be bohemian revolutionaries? Very impressive for Noah and Bodhi (ages 2, and 6 months). The full bio reads "Child of the Cherokee Tribe - forest nymph - - Lunar Leo mother goddess - - to 2 bohemian revolutionaries-my kamikaze free spirit & my peaceful warrior." • Dog Lovers Will Be Fuming Over 'Teen Mom 2' Star Jenelle Evans' Latest Stunt
By: Shannon Houston Aug 08, 2014
Instagram/j_evans8209 Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2, and its various spin-off specials are not new to controversies, and people the world over have found themselves raging at the young women on the show. Jenelle Evans of Teen Mom 2 has been on the receiving end of criticism for years now, but this latest episode shows us another troubling side to the young mother of two.  In Season Five, episode 17 ("Harder Than It Looks"), Evans loses her temper and furiously berates one of her husband's dogs after he has an accident. It was also clear the pets were in cages that were far too small for them. You can watch the full episode here, and the first incident takes place around the 16 minute mark, and again about 34 minutes in (that scene is particulary difficult to watch, as she gets so angry that she lets the dogs go completely). Evans has since released a video, apologizing for her disturbing behavior:  “You know, when Nathan was in jail, and I was pregnant, and I had Jace, and it was a really hard time for me taking care of the dogs... So, I treated the dogs really badly, and I really wish that I didn’t.” For pet lovers, her statement (which you can read in full here) may fall on deaf ears.
