By: Shannon Houston Jun 27, 2014
Instagram/khloekardashian Happy Birthday, Khloé Kardashian! Another year means another chance to get a sweet, new boo who is not French Montana. The youngest Kardashian sister celebrated her special day at TAO nightclub in Las Vegas. And while we do seriously wish she'd celebrated the big 3-0 with someone else, we're glad she looks like she had fun. And it needs to be said that that cake is on some next level stuff. • Transgender Star Laverne Cox Says She Is Reclaiming Her Womanhood
By: Shannon Houston Jun 24, 2014
Instagram/lavernecox In a new interview transgender actress and activist Laverne Cox discusses the significance of her Netflix series Orange Is The New Black. Now in its second season, the show has given great visibility to the LGBTQ community. Cox (who plays Sofia Burset) spoke with Paste Magazine and waxed poetic on patriarchy and redefning womanhood: “What’s so deep about patriarchy and how it works is that it says, ‘This person is really a woman and this person isn’t,’” she says. “It denies certain people their womanhood, and I understand that womanhood is as much a social construct as race is.” She goes on to say that she appropriated Sojourner Truth’s speech title, “Ain’t I A Woman” for her speech in an attempt to claim her own womanhood “in a context which would often deny it.” You can read her interview with the rest of the OITNB cast here. Natasha Lyonne (who plays Nicky Nichols on the show), Yael Stone (Lorna Morello), and Laura Prepon (Alex Vause) also open up about the importance of the series in terms of sparking a dialogue about women and sexuality. Cox became the first transgender individual to cover TIME Magazine earlier this year, and we can expect more big moves from her as she continues to fight for equality. • We Finally Have Details On That New Wachowskis Netflix Series
By: Shannon Houston Jun 24, 2014
Getty Images Netflix has finally revealed some details about the highly-anticipated new series coming from the Wachowskis. Sens8 will be a 10-episode sci-fi drama starring Naveen Andrews, Daryl Hannah and Stargate Universe‘s Brian J. Smith. Other actors from Gemany, London, and South Korea are also on board. J. Michael Straczynski is co-showrunner of the series with the famed cinema siblings and he revealed this plot synopsis to Deadline: “The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally... They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.” Sounds pretty, amazingly Wachowskian. And considering the success of pretty much every Netflix series in existence so far, we can expect good things. Follow @Hollywood_com Follow @shannonmhouston //

  • Will Paul Rudd's Woody Allen Reference Stir Controversy?
By: Shannon Houston Jun 24, 2014
Focus Features via Everett Collection Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler were recently chatting up their new movie They Came Together and Vulture asked them to name some of their all-time favorite romantic comedies. While Poehler named the iconic '80s flick Say Anything, Rudd went in a slightly different direction: "Annie Hall is pretty amazing. A lot of the Woody Allen ones are pretty great..." The actor went on to name Albert Brooks as another favorite director, but now that Woody Allen's name is, for many, associated with a sex abuse scandal, could Paul Rudd's response be considered controversial? The actor was clearly just giving an honest answer to the question, but there are plenty of people who believe that one cannot separate the man from the artist, and Woody Allen shouldn't be spoken about in a positive light at all. Most likely, Rudd's fans will continue to be fans—he's got one of those faces you can never stay mad at for long. Follow @Hollywood_com Follow @shannonmhouston //

  • Steven Spielberg Will Bring Another Roald Dahl Favorite To Life
By: Shannon Houston Jun 19, 2014
20th Century Fox Film via Everett Collection Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, and The Fantastic Mr. Fox—these are just a few great movies that were inspired by brilliant works from novelist Roald Dahl. And now we can look forward to one more. Steven Spielberg recently confirmed two major film productions that he has in the works. One is the Untitled Cold War Thriller starring Tom Hanks and written by the Coen Brothers. And the other is an adaptation of Dahl's 1982 book The BFG.  The BFG (which stands for “Big, Friendly, Giant”) will be written by Melissa Mathison  (Indian in the Cupboard, E.T ), so there's plenty to look forward to with this one. The children's story—about a little girl who befriends an outcast giant that refuses to eat children—has been adapted before. You can watch the full 1989 version below. This one's fun, but we expect Speilberg to take it to the next level with his production. Follow @Hollywood_com Follow @shannonmhouston //
  • Michael Bay's Next Movie Idea May Shock You
By: Shannon Houston Jun 19, 2014
Paramount Pictures via Everett Collection In a recent interview with HitFix, director Michael Bay opened up a bit about his life behind the camera, his upcoming projects, and a very vague idea he has for a new movie. When asked if he might take on another, smaller project like Pain & Gain, he first threw a bit of shade at some unknown participants in the movie: The only non-fun thing was that I tried to save money and bring in some people that were inexperienced … that’s a bad idea. [laughs] Never doing that again. You know what I’m saying? Try to give people breaks and … But then he went on to say that he's kicking around a very different idea: There’s an African elephant thing that keeps … I always wanted to do one of those stories. If Bay takes on an endangered animal story, this would certainly be a departure from the norm for him. Can the guy who brings us Transformers—and explosions and CGI all over the place—bring us the elephant story we've been waiting for?  Follow @Hollywood_com Follow @shannonmhouston //
