  • Justin Bieber and Oprah Winfrey Combine Forces in Biggest Pop Culture Event Ever!
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Oct 25, 2012
Attention all Beliebers, consumers of pop culture, and all human beings everywhere! Justin Bieber and Oprah Winfrey are combining forces, conspiring to blow up TVs, the internet, and everything pop culture related! The sheer size of their power is so great, we’re worried about the aftermath. Will pop culture survive this meeting of the minds? Only time will tell. To clarify, Bieber is the next musician to appear on Winfrey’s OWN show Oprah's Next Chapter. Yeah, wrap your mind around that one. After interviewing pop stars Rihanna and Fergie, Winfrey will sit down with Bieber for an in-depth look at his life, as well as heading backstage at a Bieber Believe tour date. "Me and the Bieber just finished our interview," Winfrey posted on Facebook. “Good stuff!” The interview could not have come at a better time for the pop star: his YouTube channel just hit over 3 billion views, making him the first musician to reach that milestone. Catch the episode – and fear for pop culture’s future – on Nov. 25. Follow Sydney on Twitter @SydneyBucksbaum [Photo Credit: Facebook] More: Andy Cohen and Jill Zarin at War Over "Secret Recording"? • 'Arrow' React: Someone Finds Out Arrow's Secret Identity!
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Oct 25, 2012
Arrow, you’ve done it again. Each week, I keep thinking you can't get any better. And then you go and prove me wrong. Thanks for that. I love being served a big ol’ slice of humble pie on a weekly basis. No really, I do! Especially when it’s a slice of the Arrow-is-increasingly-awesome flavor of humble pie. It’s my favorite kind! This week’s sweet treat is brought to you by Deadshot, a hit man who uses poison bullets (if the shot didn’t kill you, you’ll be done in later by the rare form of poison) and tats his beautiful bod abs torso with the names of his unfortunate victims. While Deadshot claimed that not only did he admire Arrow’s work, but they are also both in the same line of work – taking down the corrupt men running Starling City, Arrow was quick to cut him down: Arrow fights for justice, to clean up the city, and Deadshot was just a gun for hire. Hired by, I should add, the Bratva, a.k.a. the Russian mob. An organization of which Oliver Queen/Arrow is a captain(!!!). The mystery of his tattoos and background deepens. While Arrow eventually killed Deadshot in their final showdown (with an arrow through his goggle… ouch), he didn’t escape from the fray unscathed. The poison bullets Deadshot uses? Arrow found out that important little detail after suffering a gunshot to his shoulder. After doing some impressive self-surgery and getting the bullet out, Oliver felt woozy. And quickly understood he had been poisoned. He ran to his fancy secret mystery box and pulled out an herbal antidote. Thank goodness he had been shot and was able to figure the poison component out, because after following Oliver to the duel between Arrow and Deadshot, bodyguard Dig was hit with a stray bullet on the sidelines. Arrow got Dig back to Arrow HQ and gave him the antidote. Dig regained consciousness in the final 30 seconds, long enough to get an eyeful of Oliver as Arrow, and Arrow as Oliver. And there you have it, folks. The secret is out, and Arrow gets a sidekick (maybe? Hopefully?). Dig was already wising up to Oliver’s secret, after Oliver kept shaking the bodyguard’s shadowing so expertly, and his handy throwing of a kitchen knife from across the room with such precision. Dig was the only one in Oliver’s life who noticed there was something darker brewing underneath the façade of billionaire playboy. And now that he’s been clued in to the truth, there are a couple ways Dig can react. He can go into bodyguard mode and force Oliver to give up his dangerous vigilante ways (and therefore do his job by keeping Oliver out of dangerous situations). That would only make things harder for Arrow to sneak away and do his job cleaning up the streets of Starling City. He could force Oliver to tell his family what’s been going on in some therapeutic effort. Or –and this is what I really want to see – he could team up with Arrow and become a sidekick of sorts, lending his combat expertise to Arrow’s guerrilla tactics. It seems as if this is something Oliver wants as well, seeing as how he didn’t even attempt to hide his identity when Dig woke up. He could have disappeared, worn a mask or his hood, anything to keep up the charade. But he just sat in plainclothes, waiting to present himself to Dig. Maybe he has been craving someone to talk to, and share his new life with. He certainly seemed happy to show himself – his true self – to Dig. There is nothing better than the episode in which someone finds out the truth about the protagonist. The big reveal: it’s what entire seasons, entire series lead to. And Arrow gave us the reveal in the third episode. Awesome. I can’t even imagine where this show will take us next. Oh yeah, some other things not including Stephen Amell’s muscles happened, like Thea spilled the beans of Laurel and Tommy’s romance (that Oliver already knew about and Laurel deduced from Oliver’s lack of reaction), Thea was perpetually wasted and acted like a sullen rich teenager, Laurel was a badass and took down a guy three times her size, Arrow asked (demanded?) Det. Lance for police force backup and actually got it (yay teamwork!), and there was not only another archer on the island, but a whole group of black ops guys! Is this the Bratva? I seriously can’t wait for the episode that focuses on what really happened on the island, you guys. And our eye-candy of the week: Arrow is too cool to lift weights, so he lifts 3 cement cinderblocks. At once. No big deal. I wasn’t drooling. Nope. • We Get It, Clint Eastwood, You're Pro-Romney
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Oct 24, 2012
If Clint Eastwood’s make-believe interview with an empty chair at the Republican National Convention didn’t make it clear enough that he is pro-Romney, this new anti-Obama ad sure does. Aimed at swing states, the ad, which was filmed for superPAC American Crossroads on behalf of Romney at Eastwood's home, features Eastwood lamenting that America has been “knocked down” the last few years. Eastwood's voiceover, set to washed out footage of factories, average Americans, a downtrodden-appearing Obama, and an impassioned Romney, broadcasts, “Obama’s second term would be a rerun of the first, and our country just couldn’t survive that.” The dramatic kicker, delivered by Eastwood speaking straight to the camera, packs a punch. "There's not much time left and the future of our country is at stake," Eastwood says.  Like most campaign ads airing this close to the election, the commercial focuses on evoking an emotional response rather than relaying information regarding the candidates' platforms that could actually help inform voters. • Robert Pattinson: 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2' Sex Scene Is "Ridiculous"
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Oct 24, 2012
Calling all Twihards: if you just can’t wait until the midnight release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 on Nov. 16, have we got a treat for you. Check out the just released “Final Chapter” two-minute featurette on the finale below: This extended preview includes scenes and footage in the highly anticipated flick, plus exclusive interviews with director Bill Condon and stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Ashley Greene, and Taylor Lautner. Something you won’t find the stars talking about in the featurette? The sex scene between new-vampire Bella and her husband Edward. Don’t you worry, Pattinson dished on the “ridiculous” sex scene in an interview on the Australian talk show Kyle and Jackie O. "The sex scene in this one is pretty ridiculous," Pattinson said. "It's just because you're kind of shooting stuff to be PG-13. It's just that you’re trying to think of inventive ways to make something sexy. It can't just be a normal sex scene. It's supposed to be about like the greatest vampire sex you've ever had. A lot of it was just close ups on me and Kristen’s faces." Pattinson also touches on how actually filming the movies and promoting them feel like two entirely different jobs since Twilight isn’t just a movie, it’s a culture, the movie that made him cry, his Starbucks order and more. • 'Vegas' and 'Elementary' Given Full Season Orders
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Oct 23, 2012
Following the CW’s good news yesterday, CBS has given full season orders to Vegas and Elementary. These back-nine pickups are the first for the network this season. “Vegas and Elementary have opened strong, delivering big audiences and winning performances in important time periods,” said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler. ”Each of the shows has rich characters, big stars and a unique visual style that have stood out in the crowd, helping make two of our strongest nights even stronger.” Both of the 10 pm dramas (airing Tuesdays and Thursdays, respectively) have had good ratings so far. Dennis Quaid’s Vegas premiered to a 2.5 rating and nearly 15 million viewers, and the modern-day Sherlock Holmes series Elementary opened to a 3.1 rating, winning its time slot. With Vegas and Elementary both picked up, and Made in Jersey as the Eyeball's first cancellation of fall, the CBS’s only series still up in the air is the comedy Partners. • Two Nights Of Tarantino Brings 'Reservoir Dogs' and 'Pulp Fiction' Back To Theaters
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Oct 23, 2012
To celebrate legendary Quentin Tarantino’s film career spanning two decades, Miramax, NCM Fathom Events and IGN are bringing two of his most acclaimed movies back into theaters for one night each. This December you can catch both Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction in movie theaters nationwide. Tarantino XX: ‘Reservoir Dogs’ 20th Anniversary Event will hit select movie theaters nationwide on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7:00 p.m. local time. In 1992, Tarantino introduced himself to the film scene with his debut of Reservoir Dogs. Twenty years later, the crime-thriller is back in theaters. Introducing key elements – non-linear storytelling, violent crime, and intricate dialogue- that have become hallmarks of Tarantino’s work, Reservoir Dogs follows the story of six criminals hired to carry out a diamond heist, but when the police show up at the time of the robbery, panic spreads, violence ensues and suspicions grow. Reservoir Dogs 20th Anniversary Event will also feature trailers hand-picked by Tarantino that influenced his work, and exclusive new interviews. Tarantino XX: ‘Pulp Fiction’ Event hits theaters two days later on Thursday Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. local time. Recognized on AFI’s Top 100 list, Pulp Fiction weaves three interconnected stories of seemingly unrelated people into an intricate tale of violence and redemption. Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega are two hitmen out to retrieve a suitcase stolen from their employer, mob boss Marsellus Wallace. Wallace has also asked Vincent to take his wife Mia out while he is away. Butch Coolidge is an aging boxer who is paid by Wallace to lose his next fight. These intersecting storylines starring John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman are brought together in a highly-stylized way that has become a cinema classic. Hollywood.com can also give you an exclusive look at the Pulp Fiction themed panel of the five part fold-out cover/interior of the upcoming box set Tarantino XX: 8-Film Collection Blu-ray. The artwork is from artist Ken Taylor, whose work has been previously utilized by the Mondo poster company. Check it out here. • Bullseye! 'Arrow' Gets Full First Season
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Oct 22, 2012
Arrow star Stephen Amell said it perfectly in his tweet: “Best way to start a Monday? Getting picked up for your back nine episodes. Thwick.” That’s right, lovers of archery and Amell’s abs take on Oliver Queen, rejoice! The CW has picked up Arrow for a full 22-episode first season. This back nine pickup comes as no surprise after the premiere opened with strong ratings – over 4.02 million viewers and a 1.3 demo rating, making it the CW's highest-rated drama since 2010. It was also the CW’s most watched series premiere since megahit The Vampire Diaries debuted back in 2009. And week two’s episode only saw a decrease of 15 percent in total viewers (to 3.5 million), maintaining most of its audience. Catch Arrow Wednesdays on the CW. • Nicki Minaj's Newest Music Video Feels Mighty Familiar
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Oct 19, 2012
Nicki Minaj just released the music video for “The Boys” featuring Cassie, and it is just as crazy fun as you would expect it to be. The neon-loving video shows off Minaj's booty rap skills as well as her penchant for out-there themes. With a video like this, imagine what her performances on her new gig, American Idol, will be like! Check out “The Boys” featuring Cassie below: I’m feeling a little déjà vu, here. Not for the bubble gum pink, bootylicious videos Minaj always puts out (while that certainly is the case here, also), but the components that make up “The Boys” are reminding me of a couple other songs and music videos. Let me break it down for you. In the bridge, Cassie sings “Your lipstick stains / smells like a cheap hotel.” First time I heard it, I thought they were parodying Train’s “Hey Soul Sister.” In Train’s verse, the lyrics go, “Your lipstick stains / on the front lobe of my left side brains.” Looks and sounds similar, right? Next, when Cassie and Minaj sing the chorus, the lyrics are “They wanna touch it / taste it, see it, feel it / bone it, own it, yeah yeah / dollar dollar paper chaser / get that money, yeah yeah.” Does that not sound like Daft Punk’s “Technologic”? When Cassie dons the blue suit and yellow hair, impersonating the boys she and Minaj are rapping about, I had another moment of déjà vu. Remember that time Lady Gaga became Joe Calderone at the 2011 MTV VMA’s? Let me refresh your memory (below). I thought Jo Calderone was Gaga's most brilliant performance, and I guess Cassie agreed.  Lastly, the scene where Minaj is strutting around the diner she burnt down, recalled another colorful-haired bootylicious star’s most recent music video. And yet, in spite of all these similarities, you just can’t get antics like Minaj’s anywhere else, making her video one of a kind. "The Boys" is Nicki's first single from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up, which will include tracks that appeared on Roman Reloaded plus a separate disc with her new tunes.
