  • Second 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' Trailer Delivers More Action... and More YA Romance
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Apr 01, 2013
Demons, werewolves, and rogue shadowhunters, oh my! The newest trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones just hit the web, and while the extended footage does give fans more plot details than the first grand look — including our first glimpse of Lena Headey's mother-with-a-dark-past Jocelyn Fray! — it is starting to feel a lot more like the YA novel adaptation that it is.  The first installment in Cassandra Clare's bestselling fantasy series tackles a world hidden from "mundane" human perception, and when New York teen Clary Fray (Lily Collins) starts to see things others can't after her mother goes missing, her world is turned upside down. She is thrust into the world of shadowhunters, a.k.a. demon hunters, and discovers her family's dark past and her mysterious connection to the rogue shadowhunter villain Valentine (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Along the way, she meets bad boy shadowhunter Jace Wayland (Jamie Campbell Bower), and twins Alec (Kevin Zegers) and Isabelle Lightwood (Jemima West), with her mortal best friend Simon (Robert Sheehan) dragged along for the ride. RELATED: 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' Trailer #1 While the first trailer released four months ago had an epic feel, this new clip focuses more on the budding (and quite... unique) relationship between Clary and Jace — and the resulting animosity Alec feels for Clary — giving it a much more tweeny, young adult feel. But the upside to the new footage is that it seems like it will stay true to the book, right down to the climactic battle at the end. Check out the trailer below:  What do you think of the newest trailer? Are you excited to see Clary, Jace, Simon, and the Lightwoods battle the evil Valentine? Let us know in the comments! • 'DWTS' Week 2: Louis van Amstel Is 'Worried For D.L.' Hughley
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Apr 01, 2013
Last week, the first pair left Dancing With the Stars Season 16. But it wasn't an actual elimination. Dorothy Hamill exited the show voluntarily after a back injury prevented her from continuing. "I felt so bad for Dorothy," DWTS expert Louis van Amstel tells "As an athlete, when you have an injury, it is even worse because you know what you cannot do. It is so frustrating. You could see [her pain] but at the same time you could still see the musicality and her natural ability of movement. I hope she takes care of her injury and it goes away fast." The silver lining of Hamill's exit meant that struggling contestant D.L. Hughley was deemed safe, and has another chance to win over the audience tonight. "I'm worried for D.L.," van Amstel says. "When I saw his package, my thought was, 'You’re going home. Your package just ruined it for you. Stop whining!'" But van Amstel thinks Hughley has it in him to turn it around thanks to his apology to his partner Cheryl Burke last week. "He had a revelation and he kind of redeemed himself after he danced because that was a very self-deprecating moment where he said he was wrong," van Amstel says. "It was good TV because it was very positive in the end. But will America be that forgiving, I don’t know." RELATED: 'DWTS': Louis van Amstel Weighs In On the Best (and Worst) Pairs from Week 1 Another competitor who had a tough time last week was Wynonna Judd, but van Amstel is confident that won't hurt her going forward. "Instead of calling that a breakdown, I call that a revelation. It was a breakthrough," van Amstel says. "In that moment she let go, and her quickstep was pretty good. I agree with the judges that it was very safe, but it is still early and she will now have to up her game. It was a good moment for her to let it out, let it go, and move on, which she did." As for Andy Dick, van Amstel thinks he's got nothing to worry about despite his less-than-perfect dancing ability. "Andy is not going home," van Amstel says. "From the package point of view, from costuming, staging, production value, dance content, music, they had the best performance. I’m not talking his dance ability, because Zendaya, Kellie [Pickler], and Jacoby Jones are way better dancers but with the package, the comedy played up to his strengths. I thought it was the best package as a whole of the night, and I did not see that coming."  The top three dancers of the night according to van Amstel are still the same as Week 1: Zendaya, Pickler, and Jones. "Kellie won the night, by far. But having said that, Zendaya had to perform and dance in heels and had to learn proper jive. That is harder," van Amstel says. "So to me, the girls are in the top three. And do not rule out Jacoby Jones. The guy was amazing, and he is not a dancer. He is a football player. In the packages, that’s where Jacoby Jones shines. His personality is contagious." Tune in to Dancing With the Stars on Mondays at 8 PM ET/PT, and Tuesdays at 9 PM ET/PT on ABC. • Watch 'The Host' Stars Jake Abel and Max Irons Explain Their 'Freaky Interspecies' Love Quadrangle
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Mar 30, 2013
The Host, the new movie based on a book by Twlight scribe Stephenie Meyer, is told from the perspective of human Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan), who has an alien Wanderer living in her brain. Crazy, right? What's even crazier is that there are two different guys in love with her. Well, one is in love with her and one is love with that alien that lives in her brian.  Yes, that is some seriously crazy stuff. But don't fear, Jake Abel and Max Irons, the who play Ian O'Shea (who is after the alien) and Jared Howe (who is after the human) respectively, are here to explain the world's (or actually the universe's) craziest love quadrangle at the center of the sci-fi movie. "I’m into this," Abel jokes about their supernatural romantic arrangement. "And one of them is not of our species, so there’s another freaky element." RELATED: 'The Host' Star Saoirse Ronan Calls Her Co-Stars 'Very Talent Kissers' Irons (the son of Oscar winner Jeremy Irons) agrees that, "There’s a bit of interspecies love going on." The boys go on to joke about how they couldn't stand each other during filming. "We weren’t even sitting next to each other in these posters," Abel says. "We had to be put there afterward." "With Photoshop!" Irons explains. Usually when celebs are getting retouched it's for something totally different. • Could Matthew McConaughey Nab the Lead in Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'?
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Mar 28, 2013
Matthew McConaughey has had an interesting, unique career path, and it’s about to take another wild turn. Christopher Nolan has reportedly offered the male lead role of his next big movie, Interstellar, to McConaughey, Deadline reports. There is no deal yet, and reached out for confirmation but did not hear back at time of publication.  McConaughey would play a character named Cooper in the film, which follows a "heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding." Think that brain-buster sounds like nothing McConaughey would ever do? Think again. The chameleon actor took on a few different types of roles before he became pigeon-holed as a rom-com staple. He got his start as a stoner in Dazed And Confused and moved on to a lighter role in Angels in the Outfield before taking on an easygoing lawyer in A Time To Kill. He then found his niche as the male counterpart in romantic-comedies, with The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Failure to Launch, Fool's Gold, and many, many more. RELATED: Christopher Nolan's New Film To Blow Our Minds in 2014 McConaughey only recently broke his mold and his own stereotype when he impressed Hollywood with his shockingly gritty performances in Lincoln Lawyer, Bernie, Killer Joe, The Paperboy, and Magic Mike (which won him an Independent Spirit Award). His upcoming roles in The Wolf Of Wall Street  and Dallas Buyer’s Club will continue to showcase his talent in new and different ways, and joining Nolan’s big sci-fi film would launch his journey as a serious actor even further. Interstellar originally began in 2006 with an idea from Steven Spielberg, who became intrigued by Caltech physicist and relativity expert Kip S. Thorne and his scientific theory that wormholes exist and can be used for time travel. Spielberg hired Jonah Nolan to write the script, which then resulted in Christopher Nolan signing on in January after Spielberg left the project.  Do you think McConaughey has the chops to take on the lead role in Interstellar, based off of his recent impressive work? • 'Beauty and the Beast' Star Promises Resolution to Last Week's Adrenaline-Fueled Cliffhanger
By: Sydney Bucksbaum Mar 28, 2013
Have you recovered from last week’s massive cliffhanger on Beauty and the Beast yet? "Insatiable" cut off right as Tess (Nina Lisandrello) shot Vincent (Jay Ryan), and Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) ran in screaming. If you’re worried tonight’s "Partners in Crime" might skip over any action with a time jump, you can relax: Lisandrello spilled the beans on tonight’s game-changing, drama-heavy episode. "We are literally going to pick up right from Tess shooting the beast and Catherine running in," Lisandrello reveals to "Because of all the adrenaline going through Tess after having just shot someone, when Cat runs in she’s screaming no, but Tess is still coming from a place of her partner just ran in and is going to have her back. Tess is kind of all over the place but she does not know that this is the person that Catherine loves." That confusion will be cleared up very quickly, however, when Catherine finally reveals the truth about Vincent's identity. But just because Cat finally opens up to Tess doesn’t necessarily mean her ex-partner will believe her. "The question is will Tess accept what Catherine’s saying to her?" Lisandrello says. "It’s a huge leap from Tess’s reality, that people who turn into beast creatures are coming from a good place. She is really going to have to decide whether Catherine is sane in all of this and whether she can trust her or not." RELATED: Sendhil Ramamurthy's 'Beauty and the Beast' Debut 'Ruffles a Lot of Feathers' That dilemma will plague Tess over the course of tonight’s episode. Will Tess side with Cat and Vincent now that she knows the truth, or will her feelings for Joe lead her in the opposite direction? "It is going to be a very intense roller coaster ride because Tess is in love with Joe and Vincent killed Joe’s brother," Lisandrello teases. "Tess is going to have to decide where her loyalties lie: if it’s with her best friend or if it’s with the man she’s falling in love with." Tess is stuck between a rock and a hard place, and her choice won’t be an easy one to make. "Whatever decision she makes, she has to lie to the other person," Lisandrello says. "Tess is a pretty open, upfront human being, but now she’s going to have to start harboring secrets and information from a person that she cares about deeply." RELATED: 'Beauty and the Beast' Exec Producer Talks Cat/Vincent Romance No matter what side she chooses, her friendship with Cat may be damaged irreparably thanks to being put in this situation. "It is a very intense and highly emotional episode because we had a beautiful friendship that is now damaged," Lisandrello says. "We have to see if they can make it out of this. The audience will definitely be on edge about what Tess is going to decide to do, and whether this whole thing is going to come crumbling down on Catherine." Especially now that the new Assistant District Attorney Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is highly suspicious of everyone in the precinct, no one is safe – even though he is hiding secrets of his own, like how he was responsible for the vigilante copycat murders last week. "Tess didn’t trust Gabe out of the gate," Lisandrello reveals. "You’ll definitely find out more about him. He is harboring a ton of information and secrets. I think the audience will be really surprised about what’s in store for his storyline." Catch Beauty and the Beast on Thursdays at 9 PM ET/PT on The CW.
