We know all you movie fans are on the edge of your seat for the Oscars 2023. Who is hosting? Will it be in the same place? Who’s nominated? What about the slap situation? Well, stick around as we tell you everything you need to know so far about the upcoming 95th Academy Awards.

Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2023 Oscars

It was announced in November that the the talk show host and comedian will host the award show. “Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap,” Jimmy Kimmel said in a statement to Variety. “Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no.”  He previously hosted the show in 2017 and 2018.

Are nominations out?

Nominations have not been announced just yet, but that doesn’t mean that there’s been no discussion around it. Some possible frontrunners for nominations include some audience favorites over the year like Everything Everywhere All At Once and Top Gun: Maverick. Actors like Brendan Fraser for The Whale and Austin Butler for Elvis were big contenders at the Cannes FestivalFlorence Pugh (Don’t Worry Darling) spurred a lot a lot of discussion on social media while, Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Cate Blanchett (TAR) have received critical acclaim.

Unlike the last year’s award show, the Oscars 2023 will include all 23 categories in the live show. The nominations will come out on January 24, 2023.

Will the Will Smith, Chris Rock controversy affect the 2023 Oscars?

Last year, Chris Rock took the stage to present an award. When making jokes during his monologue, he made a comment about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair causing Will Smith to slap Rock in the face. Since then, Will Smith has apologized for his actions on Instagram and to Chris Rock personally.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in April that Will Smith will be banned from the award show for 10 years.

“The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards. We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.” 

In an interview with ExtraJimmy Kimmel shared he would address the moment in the 2023 award show.

We won’t know what the 95th Academy Awards will bring until they air live, but it’s sure to be an exciting time for artists and movie fans everywhere.
