Megan Fox has had a fruitful decades-long career, landing roles in huge franchises like Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Her 2009 film Jennifer’s Body has even earned a cult following in recent years, making her an icon for young women and movie watchers everywhere!
While some struggles in her early career caused her to hide from the public eye, she is definitely no longer a stranger to the spotlight, as she’s constantly making headlines for her romance with artist Machine Gun Kelly and her back-to-back new films.
Let’s dive into Megan Fox’s notorious acting career and where her resurgence in Hollywood is taking her!
A look at Megan Fox’s life and early career
Megan Fox grew up in Tennessee where she began training in dance and drama at a very young age. Her family later moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and she began modeling at the age of 13. According to Elevate Artist Management, Megan won several awards at the 1999 American Modeling and Talent Convention.
When Megan Fox was 17, she tested out of high school so she could move to Los Angeles and begin her career in the entertainment industry. Megan’s first film role came with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Holiday in the Sun. Megan played Brianna Wallace in the direct-to-video movie that took place in The Bahamas.
The Olsen twins play a pair of sisters who are on vacation with their parents, where one of the girls falls for a boy who works at their resort. Megan Fox’s character Brianna is a spoiled heiress who also has feelings for this boy and won’t let anyone get in her way.

Before she starred on the big screen, Megan Fox played Ione Starr on the soap opera Ocean Ave. The drama was full of death, crime, and broken family ties. Ocean Ave. ran for 130 episodes between 2002 and 2003. While it was filmed in Florida, the soap opera aired in Sweden and was never picked up in the US.
Since then, Megan has gone on to star in a number of Hollywood projects including TV shows like Hope & Faith and New Girl. In addition to her busy career, she is a mother to 3 children she shares with ex-husband Brian Austin Green: Noah Shannon Green, Bodhi Ransom Green, and Journey River Green. She is also a step-mother to Kassius Green, Brian’s son from a previous relationship.
Megan Fox’s relationship with Machine Gun Kelly
For nearly a year, Meghan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly have been the celebrity couple at the front of everyone’s minds. Whether they’re starring in a music video together, walking the red carpet, or just spotted on the street, the power couple has successfully captured the attention of pop culture fans everywhere.
One of the first projects the pair worked on at the beginning of their relationship is Machine Gun Kelly’s music video for his song My Bloody Valentine. The music video features Megan covering MGK’s mouth with pink duct tape and lip-syncing the song.
Just about every time this duo steps out in public, they serve iconic looks that make fans go crazy on social media. When speaking with WhoWhatWear, Megan Fox said that she usually builds her outfits around whatever Machine Gun Kelly is wearing, as he is more passionate about fashion than she is.
In a July 2021 article, Machine Gun Kelly shared with InStyle, “I don’t think people get the opportunity to believe in real, great love, and that’s what we have together.”
Standing Up for Women in Hollywood
Throughout her career, Megan Fox has been the target of public scrutiny, but she is not afraid to speak up and share the ways she feels she has been wronged in the entertainment industry.
Since her early roles, Megan has been overly sexualized. An early example of this can be found in a 2009 interview with Jimmy Kimmel. On the talk show, Megan shared her experience working with Michael Bay on Bad Boys II and how he chose to have her dancing in a bikini underneath a waterfall at the age of 15. Jimmy Kimmel responded, “Well that’s really a microcosm of how all our minds work, but some of us have the decency to repress those thoughts,” as the audience laughed, thus proving Megan’s point.

In a recent Washington Post interview, Megan Fox said that this reaction mirrored the dark experience she had as a young woman in Hollywood. She experienced misogyny in other ways too. This is especially true in how Jennifer’s Body was marketed towards men with a focus on Megan’s appearance in the film when in reality it was a story for girls and women. This gap in the intended audience helped contribute to the film’s less than stellar reviews at the time.
It became clear to Megan she wasn’t known for her talent, and she found it hard to discover purpose with the way Hollywood was treating her. She told InStyle that this hurt led her to distance herself from the spotlight for a while, but seeing people now recognize the way she was treated and sympathize with her is helping her to let go of that part of her career.
