A Banksy artwork paying tribute to the victims of the terror attack at France’s Bataclan music hall has been found by police detectives in Italy, over a year after it was stolen from outside the venue.

The graffiti work, which depicted a young woman looking mournful, was painted on an emergency door at the famous concert hall in 2018 as a tribute to the victims of the 2015 terror attack there that killed 90 people attending an Eagles of Death Metal gig.

The street art was cut out and removed by a group in hoods using angle grinders in late January 2019 but was found in a farmhouse in the Abruzzo region, according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, with local district attorney Michele Renzo holding a press conference on Thursday (June 10, 2020) to announce the find.

Banksy’s stenciled mural, described by venue chiefs as “a symbol of recollection”, was one of a series of artworks by the anonymous British artist that appeared around Paris in June 2018. Another, near the city’s Pompidou Centre, also went missing last September.
