“I’m a blessing to whoever gets to really know me,” DMX once said. The legendary rapper is also a blessing to everyone who knows and loves his music.
DMX died Friday April 9, at 50 years old after being hospitalized for a week following a drug overdose and heart attack, Pitchfork reports after confirmation from a representative of the rapper’s family.
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old,” says the statement shared with Pitchfork. “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.”
While DMX fans worldwide, including notable rappers and Hollywood celebs, are heartbroken, his family is right when they say that his legacy will live on forever.
Since we’re all about the HollyGOOD here, we’re going to focus on his legacy and the beautiful outpouring of love and support seen from so many during the past week.

An important reminder about talking about how we talk about addiction:
Rest In Peace DMX.
Please let his passing be a call to change in how you discuss addiction and treat people who have addictions in your life. Words like crackhead, and other similar language pushes peoples the margins and makes finding support more challenging.
