Dolly Parton: ‘Coronavirus is a lesson from God’

Dolly Parton is urging fans to “keep the faith” during the coronavirus crisis, insisting the pandemic is a “lesson from God”.

The country legend addressed her followers in a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday (March 31, 2020), and noted many fans will become better people when the virus is under control and lockdown rules are lifted.

”Well hello it’s Dolly, climbing the stairway to heaven, because the virus has scared the h-e-l-l out of us,” she shares in the footage. ”I’m not making light of the situation. Well, maybe I am, because it’s the light, I believe that’s gonna dissolve the situation.”

She added, ”I think God is in this, I really do. I think he’s trying to hold us up to the light so we can see ourselves and see each other through the eyes of love. And I hope we learn that lesson.”

The 9 to 5 hitmaker concluded with words of support and encouragement.

”I think that when this passes, we’re gonna all be better people,” she added. “I know that I have a positive attitude about it, as negative as it seems to be right now. So just keep the faith, don’t be too scared, it’s gonna be alright, God loves us.”

Parton’s statement comes a day after she announced plans to comfort kids via a daily Goodnight with Dolly video, during which she’ll read from a series of books for young readers.
