Dr. Dre’s The Chronic finally hitting streaming services on 4/20

Dr. Dre has prescribed the perfect soundtrack for fans celebrating marijuana holiday 4/20 by finally allowing his rap classic The Chronic to be streamed on all music platforms.

The hip-hop icon’s debut album will go fully digital on April 20, 2020, thanks to officials at entertainment firm eOne – 28 years after its original release.

Prior to that date, the influential Death Row Records project had only been made available to Apple Music subscribers after a deal was struck in 2015, although his other solo albums, 2001 and Compton, had been uploaded to other services like Spotify and Tidal.

In a press release, Chris Taylor, eOne’s Global President, Music & Live, said, “These historic artifacts should be heard by all music lovers, and we are so happy Dr. Dre has opened this door so everyone can experience the brilliance of this seminal work.”

The news comes shortly after it was revealed The Chronic had been selected by authorities at America’s Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry.
