Dua Lipa wiped her Instagram to ‘take away the preciousness’ of social media

Dua Lipa wanted to try and “take away the preciousness” of social media by wiping her Instagram page.

The 24-year-old singer disappeared from the social media site at the end of August (2019), with fans immediately panicking after she also removed all her old pictures from the site. She made her comeback five weeks later and has since been posting regularly on both Instagram and Twitter.

In an interview with Australia’s radio show Nova 96.9 Fitzy & Wippa, Dua was asked about her reasons behind the drastic decision, and explained: “I think, for me, it was just to prove to myself that social media isn’t really real in that aspect that you can do whatever you want, that you can post how you want, and you can choose how you use social media… it was more for fun,” she explained.

“It was more, I’m starting a new album. I want to just start fresh. Those memories are always going to be there. I lived through them and I’ll never forget them. I have those pictures for the rest of my life and I get to keep them. But it’s to kind of take away the preciousness that I feel so much with social media, and that was kind the reason why I did it.”

Dua’s admission comes after she revealed that she goes through social media looking for things to make herself feel low when she’s having “vulnerable” days.
