Gigi Hadid Calls Out Islamophobic Tweet

Gigi Hadid has called out a right-wing activist on Twitter for criticizing two women who wore hijabs in New York following the terrorist attack.

Sayfullo Saipov, 29, killed eight people and injured 12 when he drove a truck onto a crowded cycle path in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday (31Oct17).

The following day, right-wing activist and reporter Laura Loomer shared a photograph of two women wearing hijabs walking just a few blocks from where the attack took place.

“Muslims are out in full force at the scene of the NYC #ISIS attack today rubbing it in everyone’s face. Aimlessly walking around in hijabs,” she wrote in the caption. “You’d think they’d have the decency to not walk around in hijabs @ cross street of the attack. But they don’t. I bet they’re loving this.”

Laura’s comments sparked backlash from Twitter users, including Gigi, who shut her down by writing, “Laura, I hate to give you the attention, but I need to tell you- You’re a f**king moron.”

Laura shared the model’s message and added, “Every verified liberal in Hollywood & MSM (mainstream media) is tweeting at me today. I guess I really p**sed them off. It’s not like I killed 8 ppl (people)…”

The 22 year old continued to fight back by writing, “Alas.. your RT (retweet) only proves your classless desperation to spread hate for attention..” followed by a green faced emoji.

Gigi’s boyfriend Zayn Malik is Muslim and he has previously opened up about his experiences with being judged over his faith.

“The first time I came to America, I had three security checks before I got on the plane; first they said that I’d been randomly selected, and then they said it was something to do with my name, it was flagging something on their system…” he told London’s Evening Standard earlier this year.
