Gwyneth Paltrow’s vagina-scented candle idea started out as a joke.
The actress shocked fans with the latest release via her Goop lifestyle brand, the This Smells Like My Vagina candle.
Appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Wednesday (January 22, 2020), the Goop boss revealed she had no idea the new product would become a sell-out success.
“It sort of started as a joke,” Gwyneth admitted. “We were kind of messing around and I smelled this beautiful thing and I was like, ‘This smells like my vagina’. I was kidding, obviously. It was really funny to us, but also a little bit punk rock.
“I think women, a lot of us, have grown up feeling certain degrees of shame around our bodies or whatever. So this is a little bit of a subversive candle for all of us out there.”
The This Smells Like My Vagina candle retails for $75, and is available via the Oscar-winning actress’ online wellness store. The first batch sold out upon its release earlier this month (January 2020).
