Here’s what 26 Hollywood celebs have to say about the coronavirus vaccines

The COVID-19 vaccines have been the talk of the town––and the world––ever since the first inoculation in December.

Social media analytics company Talkwalker analyzed millions of conversations across social media platforms, news sites, blogs, and forums to understand how people are talking about the COVID-19 vaccines. The full report, entitled “Racing for a Vaccine: COVID-19 and the Evolution of Pharma,”  discovered that there have been over one million mentions of the COVID-19 vaccine across social media platforms in just the past month alone!

While some people are skeptical of the safety, effectiveness, and credibility of the vaccines, the Talkwaker report found that one major key to influence vaccine credibility: celebrities.

Celebs aren’t just entertainers––they’re influencing healthcare, too

Our definition of celebrity has changed and expanded its meaning over time––celebrities are no longer just actors and musicians, but also politicians, athletes, social media influencers, tech entrepreneurs, and more.

Today, we’re highlighting celebrities across the map who are using their star power to encourage anyone and everyone to get the coronavirus vaccine.

Let’s start with politicians. Both President Joe Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci opted to get vaccinated on camera to show the safety of the vaccine.

According to Vulture, President Joe Biden and his wife FLOTUS Jill Biden completed their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine earlier last month:

Here’s Dr. Anthony Fauci getting his vaccine:

Since then, we’ve seen countless celebs posting about their coronavirus vaccination experience. 

The commentary varies––some are urging fans to get vaccinated while others make jokes about the vaccine––but they are all continuing the conversation surrounding the vaccine as a solution to the coronavirus pandemic.

Take a look at some of the Hollywood celebrities who are influencing vaccine credibility:

Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry created a BET special called COVID-19 Vaccine And The Black Community: A Tyler Perry Special. The special talks about his experience getting both doses of the vaccine. The special aired on BET in January.

Perry tweeted that he decided to do the special because he was asked if he would be willing to get vaccinated to show people that it was safe. He was skeptical and wanted all of his questions answered first.

Steve Martin

Actor Steve Martin tweeted that he got vaccinated in January. Martin showed his comedic side with the good news/ bad news tweet saying that the good news was that he got vaccinated and the bad news was that he got it because he’s 75. 

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Actor and former politician Arnold Schwarzenegger shared a video of him getting his vaccine, saying “Today was a good day. I have never been happier to wait in a line. If you’re eligible, join me and sign up to get your vaccine. Come with me if you want to live!” 

Terminator fans will get the reference 🙂

Martha Stewart

Snoop Dogg’s BFF Martha Stewart received her vaccine on January 11th, 2021. She shared her experience on Instagram:

“I was vaccinated today in a designated vaccine pod near the Martha Stewart Center for Living at Mount Sinai Downtown I am so proud of and grateful to the doctors, nurses and medical staff who are wading through the red tape and confusion of the distribution of these very important vaccines. I am excited to have received my dosage and look forward to the booster. The doctors told me 10,000 applications were received by Mount Sinai right after the state released this batch of vaccines.”

Martha continued by saying “Here’s to the advancement of science and a heartfelt thanks to those working on the vaccines . We are all hoping for an end to this pandemic. To allay your concerns that I jumped the line know that I am in the approved age group for this batch of vaccines and I waited in line with others.”

Ian McKellen

Actor Ian McKellen says he “would have no hesitation” in recommending the vaccine to anyone. He got his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine in London back in December.

Patrick Stewart

First Magneto and now Professor X (X-Men), Patrick Stewart got his vaccine on January 22nd. 

Patrick shared his experience on his Instagram with the caption:

“How do we say thank you to the health workers and scientists for their sacrifice and service? Receive the vaccine as soon as one can to lessen their load and keep wearing a mask to protect fellow citizens. In my 80th year, I am grateful and hopeful for better days ahead.”

Elton John

Rocket Man singer Elton John joined forces with actor Michael Caine to promote the vaccine and show his support to NHS England. In a video he shared to Twitter, Elton says “the more people in society that get vaccinated, the more chance there is of eradicating the national covid pandemic.”

Elton John goes on to say that “the vaccines have all been through and met the necessary safety and quality standards.”

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson shared with his Instagram followers that he was at The Forum getting “that 1st jab!!”

Ozzy Osbourne

Rockstar Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon went on ITV’s Loose Women to talk about their 40 years of marriage and his Parkinson’s diagnosis. During the segment, Ozzy mentioned what getting the vaccine felt like. “It felt like being stabbed,” he said. “My arm was a bit sore yesterday, but I’m glad I got it, you know?” Watch the full interview below:

Jane Fonda

Grace and Frankie star Jane Fonda said “Yay! It doesn’t hurt” in her Instagram video of her getting the vaccine.

Anthony Hopkins

Actor Anthony Hopkins got the vaccine on January 28th. He shared the experience on his Instagram saying:

“THANK YOU??

PublicHealth.LACounty.Gov

CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, and my dear friend, Dr. Maria Teresa Ochoa.

Light at the end of the tunnel (after one year of self imposed quarantine).”

Tony Bennett

Singer Tony Bennett tweeted that he received the vaccine during the week of January 13th. He encouraged the public to do the same:

Jeff Goldblum

Actor Jeff Goldblum shared a photo on his Instagram of him receiving a standard covid test before a film shoot. In his caption, Goldblum says:

“Immense gratitude to all of the frontline healthcare workers, continuing to work tirelessly to keep us all safe. As a citizen well into my platinum years, I got my first dose of the vaccine through the LA County Department of Health, at a public vaccination site where I waited in line with other 65+ eligible citizens.”

He added, “I’ll continue to wear masks and practice social distancing. This too shall pass. Grand things are ahead. ?”

It’s nice to know that when it comes to covid vaccinations, not even celebs get the red carpet treatment––they’re truly just like us (in this way, at least).

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

NBA champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar shared on his Twitter that it is “so important for all of us to get vaccinated.” He was featured in an NBA PSA sharing that he received the vaccine to keep his family and friends healthy:

Sean Penn

Actor Sean Penn shared on Twitter that he is lucky to work alongside the ⁦

Los Angeles Fire Department⁩ and other frontline staff members. Penn urges his followers to “Text CORE to 707070 to donate” so that more people can be “lucky” to get vaccinated.

Bill Gates

Businessman and philanthropist Bill Gates received his first dose of the vaccine during the week of January 22nd. Gates calls it “one of the benefits of being 65.”

Mavis Staples

Gospel singer Mavis Staples shared that she received her second dose of the vaccine on February 11th. She then encouraged everyone to “get yours as soon as you have the opportunity.”

Anthony Daniels

Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels, known for his role of C-3PO, shared on Twitter that he got his vaccine, saying “Droids don’t get Covid. But humans do. Please…  Get vaccinated, too. We’re NOT doomed!” 

Willie Nelson

Country singer Margo Price shared the “good news” on Twitter that country superstar Willie Nelson got his vaccine on January 14th, 2021.

Kamala Harris

Madame Vice President Kamala Harris got her vaccine on December 29th. She thanked the nurse who administered her vaccine, Patricia, as well as all the nurses who are battling the pandemic:

Mike Pence

Former Vice President of the United States Mike Pence and his wife Karen Pence received the vaccine on December 18th He called the vaccine a “medical miracle” in his tweet:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

AOC got her vaccine on December 19th. She tweeted multiple photos showing her experience and said “I’d *never* ask you to do something I wasn’t willing to do myself.” She always keeps it real with us!

Alyssa Milano

Alyssa Milano reacted to a tweet about injustice when it comes to the vaccine and wealthy countries. 

Milano also wrote an op-ed on the need for the #PeoplesVaccine for Newsweek. 

Tom Hanks

According to TODAY, Tom Hanks said he would get the COVID-19 vaccine publicly. Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were one of the first celebrities to get coronavirus in the U.S.

In these trying times, we must always look for the good news. Every day, more and more people are getting the vaccine––celebrity or not, spreading that good news helps us all look towards a brighter and healthier future.
