It’s no secret that the Marvel Universe has become extremely lucrative for actors and actresses in the franchise. Kicking of in 2008 with Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr., the most recent Avengers film, Avengers: Age Of Ultron had a budget of $279.9 million, and grossed $1.403 billion globally. More telling however, is what each major Avenger actor made for this film. With the issue of the gender pay gap as a major concern in this country (especially for women of color), Hollywood has not remained immune to this problem. Recently Jennifer Lawrence, who is the current highest paid actress in Hollywood, penned an essay about the wage disparities. Though some might think that Lawrence’s issues aren’t all that repeatable to every day women, if you take a close look at the numbers you will see exactly what she’s talking about. Lawrence made $52 million this year compared to the highest paid actor Robert Downey Jr., who racked in a whopping, $82 million. So how did the Avengers’ salaries stack up for the Age of Ultron. You might be surprised to see where Scarlett Johansson falls compared to the rest of the crew. The salaries are as follows:

Robert Downey Jr. – $40 million
Scarlett Johansson – $20 million
Chris Evans – $6.9 million
Jeremy Renner – $6.1 million
Chris Hemsworth – $5.4 million
Mark Ruffalo – $2.8 million

Looking at these salaries, the issue of the gender wage gap becomes very clear. Though Scarlett Johansson took home the second biggest salary for portraying Black Widow, her $20 million dollars is only half of what RDJ brought home. As we continue to work diligently to close the gap, it will be interesting to see where everyone stacks up come May 4, 2018 for Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1.
