Those disappointed by This Is It’s lack of macabre insight into Michael Jackson’s final days and death might be in for a treat: A new, more somber documentary is in the works.
Author/director Ian Halperin is working on Gone Too Soon, which sees the late King of Pop towards the tail end of his life.
The doc will include exclusive footage with Jackson himself, as well as interviews with staff members and associates; however, no Jackson family members will be featured, nor were they involved.

Halperin’s book Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson was released shortly after Jackson’s June 2009 death and shot to No. 1 on the New York Times’ bestsellers list.
