Paul McCartney is engaged to his New York businesswoman girlfriend of four years, Nancy Shevell. The couple started dating in the Hamptons in the summer of 2007 and there’s lots of “it’s so exciting” and “they’re the perfect pair” and “see how much in love they looked when they were at the Met Gala?” nonsense. The best part of the article that describes the upcoming nuptials is the part where someone’s quoted as saying, “they have the right chemistry. They’re both cool, chilled out and optimistic.” Pardon me? They’re “optimistic”? Optimistic about what? That they’re marriage will endure? Excuse me for saying so but not even his marriage to a woman with one leg was successful — and everyone knows how much harder people with one leg have to work at things.
