‘Star Wars’ Fans Held A Light Saber Vigil For Carrie Fisher In Downtown Disney

lightsaber tribute

You’re going to have to try really hard not to cry for this one. Fans all over the country have been gathering together and holding light saber vigils to honor the life of Carrie Fisher who played the iconic Princess Leia in Star Wars.

Carrie Fisher passed away earlier this week at the age of 60 after suffering from from a heart attack on a transatlantic flight. A day later, her mother Debbie Reynolds, passed away at the age of 84. It’s undeniable that there’s a hole in the Star Wars universe. Fisher’s Leia is a powerful character who taught generations of young girls that women could be more than just damsels in distress. She killed her captor (Jabba the Hutt) with the very chains he imprisoned her by — if that’s not a lesson in female empowerment, we’re not sure what is.

Though Princess Leia may not have been distinctly trained as a Jedi, as the twin sister of Luke Skywalker, she had Jedi blood running through her veins. This is why there’s no way more fitting than to honor Fisher’s life with a light saber vigil. On Wednesday night, Star Wars fans gathered in the Downtown Disney District of Anaheim, California to pay tribute.

Fans who attended the event took to Instagram to share their stories.

Carrie’s life may have tragically ended, but the Force lives on in her memory. Carrie, you’ve inspired generations and we hope you’ve finally found peace in a galaxy far, far away.
