While we were pumped to see Justin Timberlake’s latest single hit Vevo only two days after the sexy singer teased its release, we did have an inkling that its name, “Take Back The Night” could cause a bit of mayhem.
When Timberlake initially announced the title of his single, we had difficulty fathoming what prompted JT to name his tune after Take Back the Night, an activist organization and annual protest against rape and other forms of sexual violence observed all across the country. And we were not alone in our state of confusion, it seems. The organization itself, Take Back The Night, may sue the singer for using its name. We totally saw this one coming!
Take Back the Night is now threatening to take the Sexy Back singer to court. According to Radar Online, Katherine Koestner, who serves as Executive Director for the foundation, shared, “Everyone at Take Back the Night is really shocked, because normally we get asked when people want to use the name.”
Koestner went on to put Timberlake’s ditty to shame, saying, “The lyrics are definitely very sexual and not at all clearly anti-sexual violence. ‘Use me,’ for example, is not a really great phrase for anyone affiliated with the organization.”
Although we do really love Timberlake’s catchy, club-banger tune, we still think of the well-known foundation every time we jam out to the track=. We hate to say it, Justin, but… we told you so!
