SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 6, 2000 — The under-18 crowd was all agiggle Sunday afternoon when their favorite poster girls, boys and boy bands lined up at the Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar for the Fox and Seventeen Magazine’s 2000 Teen Choice Awards.
‘N Sync walked away with five surfboard trophies, including an individual one for member Justin Timberlake (more on that later). Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Courteney Cox Arquette, Lisa Kudrow, Mike Myers and Sisqo each took home two awards.
With sizzling performances by 98 Degrees, No Doubt, BBMak and Enrique Iglesias, this year’s awards also featured squeal-worthy displays of affection from entertainent’s hottest young couples, from Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr., Jessica Simpson and 98 Degrees’ Nick Lachey, Carson Daly and Tara Reid.
Even Spears and Timberlake (named Choice Hotties of the Year) joked about their sometimes-dating relationship by teasing the audience with an almost kiss. But alas, at the last minute they pulled back and said, “Naaaaaah!”
Also on hand to pick up their awards were Cox Arquette and hubby David Arquette, Kudrow, Jim Carrey (disguised as an acne-prone teen), James Van Der Beek, Shawn and Marlon Wayans, Sisqo, Serena and Venus Williams, the cast of “Popular,” Sean Hayes (“Will & Grace”), Kobe Bryant and Sisqo.
