On the Scene at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards

The 2008 MTV Movie Awards were on fire today…literally. But the blaze burning on Universal’s back lot couldn’t extinguish the excitement on the red carpet above at the studio’s Gibson Theater.

Known as the most unpredictable awards presentation of the year, host Mike Myers didn’t disappoint and neither did the show. Between Seth Rogen and James Franco smoking pot on stage to a special performance by lifetime achievement award winner Adam Sandler, the laughs kept coming.

Hollywood.com hit up the sizzling scene for a chance to talk with the stars as they raced down the red carpet.

When it comes to the MTV Movie Awards, it’s all about the popular vote and this year’s nominees couldn’t be more tickled to have the support of their fans.

Nikki Blonsky, Breakthrough Performance nominee – Hairspray
On the excitement of being nominated: “It means a lot to me because I’m an MTV-aloholic. I love it and to be nominated for such an amazing award is phenomenal. It is so cool.”

Jon Favreau, Best Movie of the Summer winner – Iron Man
On the importance of the golden popcorn: “For a superhero movie this is as big as it gets. This isn’t a drama or a Christmas drama this isn’t one of those films that garner all of the accolades that the Hollywood upper crust give you. This is a movie for the fans and the fans vote online for these awards. This is a big deal for me, the MTV golden popcorn…So I am very happy to be here.”[PAGEBREAK]

Sean Faris, Best Fight winner – Never Back Down
On gaining exposure for his film and mixed martial arts: “Our movie was nowhere near as big as those [competitors]. To be the first mixed martial arts film it is great that it was nominated so I can bring out more awareness because it is being called a very brutal sport, it is just a sport. [If I win] I’m going to throw it all over everyone who is within five feet of me. Fun times.”

Joey Ansah, Best Fight nominee – Bourne Ultimatum
On working with Matt Damon: “When I was shooting this fight scene with Matt Damon I said you better win an award…I always loved the MTV Movie Awards and to actually be here is great…I’ve been in martial arts my whole life so it was great that we did it all for real.”[PAGEBREAK]

Pucker Up! While Robert Hoffman and Briana Evigan took home Best Kiss for their sexy smooch in Step Up 2 the Streets (equally matched by their kiss on stage), we talked to the stars about their favorite onscreen kisses.

Robert Hoffman, Best Kiss winner – Step Up 2 the Streets
On kissing his costar Briana Evigan: “It was really, really cold. We were just freezing our buns off the whole time. The kiss made it easy, the cold went away when the kissing started.”

Nikki Blonsky on making out with Zac Efron in Hairspray:
“On screen kisses are really fun. Zac and I by that time were really close friends so to stand in front of a crew of like 200 people and make out with him, it was a blast.” [PAGEBREAK]

Rainn Wilson on presenting Best Kiss with Megan Fox…in the nude:
“We did extensive research as to the aspects that make a great kiss…we have something very, very special worked out…it really involves a lot of [tongue action].”

Sean Faris on his favorite onscreen kisses of all time:
“It is a split decision between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Patricia Arquette and Christian Slater for True Romance.”

Doug Benson on who he’d like to kiss:
“I would like to kiss, she’s not really an actresses, but I would like to kiss Elizabeth Hasselbeck and then right after I kiss her I want to slap the Republican out of her. “[PAGEBREAK]

Vanessa Branch on her red carpet crush:
“It would be Ben Barnes, the Prince Caspian. I just saw him on the red carpet and he is so cute.” [PAGEBREAK]

Mike Myers knows a thing or two about hosting and his fans on the red carpet couldn’t wait to get inside to see what the comedic genius had in store.

Rainn Wilson on his advice for Myers:
“Be hysterically funny and incredibly sexy and charismatic and pull everything together into a unified theme. And make it look effortless. That’s my advice for him.”

Verne Troyer on his friend’s second time hosting:
“He’s going to be great. He’s going to be funny. I’ve seen part of the show already and everybody is going to love him.”

Doug Benson on Myers “gentle” comedy:
“I think he’s going to be great. He’s a perfectionist and he works really hard I think he’s going to put on a show I think it is going to be really fun…I’ll be shocked if says anything mean about anybody, but he’ll still find a way to be funny about movies and stars and all that stuff. His comedy is much more gentle than [Sarah Silverman’s].”[PAGEBREAK]

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion and when it comes to the MTV Movie Awards, everyone’s opinion matters.

Anna Faris on her pick for Best Movie:
“I would have to go with Superbad. It represents a new age for comedies.”

Robert Hoffman on his pick for Best Movie of the Summer So Far category:
Iron Man, I thought that movie kicked ass. I thought it was outstanding. I wanted to hate on it and then when I saw it, I can’t deny that it was a dope ass movie.”

Shane Sparks on his favorites this year:
Denzel WashingtonAmerican Gangster for Best Villain. For Best Movie of the Summer So Far, Iron Man. I am so excited about that movie. This year Transformers, Juno, Superbad. There are so many to choose from, but those are my favorites. And Best Kiss, that’s my friend Robert Hoffman and Briana. Briana I’ve known since the age of 10 and now she’s making movies with my friends. Its crazy.”

Sean Faris on his Best Movie pick:
Juno by far. Juno was awesome. It was an amazing film. I kept putting it off and putting it off and then I was beating myself up for not seeing it earlier.[PAGEBREAK]

Universal’s early morning fire, left a damper cloud of black smoke over the awards show and snarled traffic on surrounding streets, but luckily that didn’t keep these stars from making an appearance.

Jon Favreau on what he loves about Universal:
“I don’t know what’s been destroyed. I love Universal. It was one of the first places I came when I moved to town. It is a very special lot with a lot of history, a lot of memories. It looks like it is still standing and the show must go on and I heard nobody got hurt so it is all looking good so far.”

Doug Benson on what the fire means for the theme park:
“I am excited to be out here tonight we could barely get here because the whole place is on fire…this can’t stop just for the fire. We could open up a whole new Backdraft attraction just based on this fire. We need to recreate this fire for tourists from now on.”

Shane Sparks on his concern over the fire:
“[It delayed us] just a little bit cause we live right here in Los Feliz so that whole strip was kind of crazy but it worked out pretty good, because we got here and the fire is under control so that is good…The Mummy, if we had lost the Mummy [coaster] I would have been upset. That is my favorite ride out here.”[PAGEBREAK]
