50 Cent Extends Deal with Starz Network

Rapper 50 Cent has signed a major deal with bosses of cable channel Starz to extend their partnership until 2019.

The In Da Club hitmaker, who serves as executive producer and star of the channel’s TV show Power, officially announced the deal in a statement on Wednesday (13Dec17).

“I am extremely pleased to expand my partnership with Starz and Lionsgate,” he said. “This investment in my television and film ventures through G-Unit Film & Television will launch a wide range of new original scripted and unscripted programming I’m looking forward to everyone seeing.”

The rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, is already developing three shows for the channel with his production company. They include Black Mafia Family, about the intersection of the drug and music industries, and Tomorrow, Today, about an imprisoned veteran who is genetically enhanced and set free with his new abilities.

“This deal recognizes how Curtis‘ abilities have gone beyond music and business to include acting and show creation,” said Starz chief executive officer and president Chris Albrecht. “We’re pleased to continue our relationship and bring new projects to his current and future fans.”

The star told his fans on social media that he had signed a deal with Albrecht back in September (17) and joked, “I can’t believe how much money they just gave me. That s**t just f**ked with my nerves my hand is shaking…”

According to TMZ.com, the deal, which lasts until September 2019, is worth an eight-figure sum.

His post came just weeks after he confessed to purposefully leaking the final three installments of Power’s season four to boost ratings. He had previously threatened to pull it from Starz after executives refused to extend the number of episodes featured in seasons four and five.
