A$AP Ferg fronts campaign for Jimmy Choo

A$Ap Ferg has been tapped as a brand ambassador for Jimmy Choo.
The American rapper appears in the footwear label’s fall/winter 17 campaign wearing an array of cool ensembles, from a dark purple suit to a pair of leather trousers with a faux fur coat as he holds onto a Great Dane on a leash.
Ferg, real name Darold D. Brown Ferguson, Jr., gave an interview to Jimmy Choo’s official website to accompany the new advertisements, in which he discussed his personal taste and style icons.
“My style influences are David Bowie, Missy Elliott, Ludacris – during the late ’90s & early ‘2000s – Diddy, Busta Rhymes’ music video outfits, and the movie Belly,” he explained. “I heard Kanye (West) say he didn’t want to dress like normal people – people walking in the streets. He wanted to dress in costume. I liken myself to that because when I get dressed, I dress as if I’m playing a role in a movie.”
He also discussed the relationship between artists and fashion houses, acknowledging that both industries have always been interrelated, citing Italian designer Donatella Versace’s custom creations for Lil’ Kim as one example.
“Even when you think about the older rappers who dressed like rockstars, they have always used clothing to express themselves. Social media has only helped to further the focus on the relationship between fashion and hip-hop,” the 29-year-old commented.
The Plain Jane hitmaker is a big fan of expressing himself through his wardrobe choices and loves how fashion and art are “limitless”, whereas rap can sometimes pigeonhole people.
“Designing and creating art allow me to think more broadly and that helps me to push hip-hop culture forward,” he added.
