Adele is an early Brits winner

Adele has been named the first winner of the 2016 Brit Awards.
The 27-year-old singer took home the statuette for British Female Solo Artist on Wednesday night (24Feb16), beating off competition from Amy Winehouse, Florence & the Machine, Jess Glynne and Laura Marling.
Adele used her acceptance speech to voice her support for Tik Tok singer Kesha, who lost a court battle to escape her Sony record contract, which she claims ties her to music producer Dr. Luke, who she has accused of sexually and emotionally abusing her.
The Hello singer leads the nominations, alongside James Bay and Years & Years, with four nods apiece, closely followed by Calvin Harris and Jess Glynne with three.
The show at London’s O2 Arena kicked off with a performance from Coldplay, who performed their latest track Hymn for the Weekend.
A tribute to iconic British singer David Bowie, who died in January (16), is also set to take place at the ceremony, which is being hosted by beloved British TV personalities Ant and Dec return for a second straight year.
Before the show got underway, One Direction stars Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne staged a mini-red carpet reunion amid the group’s 2016 hiatus, and Kylie Minogue flashed her new engagement ring as she and fiance Joshua Sasse made their first public appearance together since confirming reports they are planning to wed.
