Aladdin to wrap up long weekend as fourth biggest Memorial Day release

European gala premiere of 'Aladdin' held at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square - Arrivals Featuring: Guy Ritchie, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Will Smith, Marwan Kenzari Where: London, United Kingdom

Aladdin is set to become the fourth biggest Memorial Day opening in U.S. movie history, if Disney estimates ring true.

The film, starring Will Smith, is topping out around the $117 million mark after a huge four-day weekend (May 24-27, 2019), and that will make director Guy Ritchie’s musical remake one of the big four May weekend releases.

Aladdin is expected to bump Fast & Furious 6 to fifth place on the all-time list and sit behind fellow Disney movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Smith is stunned by the box office numbers and took to social media late on Monday night to thank fans for their support.

Posting a photo of himself in character as the Genie on the set, he wrote: “Thank you to Everybody who came out this weekend. #Aladdin. We LOVE this Movie. We are humbled and honored that you are feeling the same.”
