Alien: Covenant overtakes Guardians of the Galaxy at U.K. box office

Alien: Covenant has knocked Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 off the top of the U.K. box office.
The Marvel superhero outing maintained a firm hold on the U.K. chart for two weeks following its release in April (17) but it failed to make it a third week at number one thanks to the release of the latest Alien instalment, which stars Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston.
The sci-fi horror came out on top over the weekend (12-14May17) with takings of $6.2 million (£5.1 million), while Guardians fell to second place with $4.1 million (£3.2 million).
Children’s animation The Boss Baby managed to claw its way to the third position, with $750,000 (£580,000), while Fast & Furious 8, also known as The Fate of the Furious, came in fourth with $640,000 (£500,000). The top five was rounded out by A Dog’s Purpose, which collected $630,000 (£490,000).
