Back to the future (but not far)

The entire look and feel of Star Trek: Enterprise, which is set 150 years into the future (100 years prior to the original Star Trek), will represent “a reinvention of the franchise,” longtime Star Trek production designer Herman Zimmerman has told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s an attempt to fabricate the future more realistically based on the aircraft and spacecraft that [researchers] are working on now,” he said. The Times said that the set representing the spacecraft” is so highly detailed that emergency lighting strips line the floor.” The set also appears far more unadorned than those used in previous Star Trek movies and TV series, the Times observed. “Simple doesn’t mean inelegant,” Zimmerman told the newspaper. “There’s a certain beauty in seeing holes in the I-beams and rivets in the supports.”
