News anchors at Baltimore station WBFF-TV have privately expressed dismay over a directive by station management that they read messages over the air conveying full support for the Bush administration’s response to last week’s terrorist attacks, the Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday. When several members of the news staff reportedly protested that to do so would undermine their objectivity, they were permitted to say that the message came from “station management.” Several staffers told the Sun that they had been placed in a no-win situation: compromise their journalistic reputations or appear unpatriotic.
