‘Beauty and the Beast’ Breaks Records at UK and US Box Offices

Beauty And The Beast broke a series of records at the U.K. box office during its opening weekend (17-19Mar17).

The live-action Disney remake, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles, scored the highest-grossing debut weekend for a PG-rated film and the biggest ever March opening in the U.S. and it has now been revealed it has also broken those records in the U.K. too, with an opening of $24.5 million.

The total also makes it the fifth highest-grossing opening of all time and the biggest Disney live-action opening of all time in the U.K., with its takings on Saturday (18Mar17) and Sunday (19Mar17) becoming the second highest-grossing Saturday and Sunday industry totals of all time, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

It was followed by Kong: Skull Island in second with $3.4 million, satirical horror Get Out, in third with $2.6 million, latest Wolverine outing Logan in fourth with $2.1 million, and The Lego Batman Movie in fifth with $623,000.
