The second season of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew is underway and Hollywood.com got the chance to go behind-the-scenes for this week’s taping.
Backstage we found the crews bonding over a little freestyle dance off, relieving the tension and getting ready to take the stage. Luckily, many were willing to take a timeout to talk to us about their experience.

Crew: SASSx7
Members: Lindsey, Amanda, Becca, Julia, Madeleine, Felicia and Dominique
Hometown: Piscataway, New Jersey
Music Video Challenge: Britney Spears: “I’m a Slave 4U”
Amanda on bonding with the other crews:
“Yeah, definitely we have…we really get along with Phresh Select, ASIID, Super Cr3w, everybody pretty much. We were band buddies with Phresh Select when we first got here, so we got to know them better. Super Cr3w and ASIID are just really good people.”
Amanda on their biggest competition:
“I would say everybody. At this point everyone is so good that it is you against everybody. If you were to pick crews with girls I would say ASIID and Fanny Pak, because they majority girls, but besides that it is hard to pick one. Everyone here is equally talented, especially this early on in the season.”

Crew: Super Cr3w
Members: Ronnie Rey, Do-Knock, Abenamar Honrubia, Rockadile, Alex Murda and Vex
Hometown: Las Vegas, Nevada
Music Video Challenge: Chris Brown: “Run It”
Do Knock on tonight’s performance:
“The thing about this piece is we have to do exactly what is in the video and the way it is edited in the video is stuff that is impossible to hit, the thing is we figured it out and did it Super Cr3w style and we are making it work.”
Do Knock on overcoming the challenges in the video:
“There is two small krumping parts in the video, which is probably the furthest thing from what we do. That was a major challenge for us to really break down and in the video it is a guy free styling which is not a choreographed dance so we had to break down everything he was doing in the freestyle and make that a routine. That was really challenging.”

Crew: ASIID
Members: Meme, Dellalicious, Melissa, Joseph, Tristan and Dreez
Hometown: Detroit, Michigan
Music Video Challenge: Ciara: “Like a Boy”
Tristan on preparing for their performance:
“We get lots of time. You can certainly use your spare time if there is any down time, which isn’t a lot you can always rehearse. Hook up in somebody’s hotel room or in the hallway it is all about the grind and everything so we rehearse as much as we can.”
Tristan on the other crews:
“There is so much love it is unbelievable you know. In something that you would think was so competitive, you would think that people wouldn’t get along and there wouldn’t be time to have fun, but it is nothing like that and we hate to see anybody go because everybody is so close. It is fun right now, but it is definitely going to get tense. The reality is somebody has to go home and that is definitely going to be sad for everybody no matter who it is.”

Crew: Fanny Pak
Members: Matt, Glenda, Phillip, Tiffani, Barracuda, Beau and Megan
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Music Video Challenge: Gwen Stefani: “Wind it Up”
Phil on the best thing they’ve learned so far:
“I think the comments from the judges have been the most significant thing so far. Especially last week when they said that we were artists. That is a real complement to a dancer is to hear that you are an artist.”
Phil on support from their fellow Angelenos:
“Definitely, we have a lot of people that come to the show to support us, we have a lot of other dancers that support us out here. It is just a big support base, even just anyone from the west. The San Francisco crews, Las Vegas, they all support everyone on the west coast.”
Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew airs on Thursdays at 10 p.m. on MTV
