Actress Betty White is the latest celebrity victim of an Internet death hoax.
The Golden Girls star hit headlines on Wednesday (10May17) when messages suggesting the TV veteran had been found dead in her native Oak Park, Illinois appeared on Twitter. Another message even suggested the 95-year-old’s publicist had confirmed Betty’s death.
The hoax prompted many fans to express their condolences on social media, but a representative for the actress subsequently dismissed the reports and insisted White is “alive and well.”
The false rumors circulated while White was getting ready for her appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, which aired on Wednesday. This isn’t the first time White has faced false death reports – in 2014, hoaxers claimed the actress had died in her Los Angeles home.
