Billy Dee Williams to lead Dirty Dancing band

Billy Dee Williams has been cast as the camp bandleader in the upcoming Dirty Dancing TV revamp.
The Star Wars actor will play charismatic musician Tito Suarez, who oversees the entertainers at the Upstate New York resort where the film takes place.
The role was originally played by actor/dancer Charles ‘Honi’ Coles in the 1987 classic. Coles died in 1992 after a battle with cancer.
Ironically, one of Williams’ last appearances on the small screen was in another dance-related show – as a contestant on U.S. ballroom competition Dancing with the Stars in 2014. However, the 78 year old was forced to pull out of the show due to a chronic back problem.
Williams joins an already star-studded cast for the television project, featuring Abigail Breslin and newcomer Colt Prattes in the roles originated by Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze respectively, as well as Nicole Scherzinger, Sarah Hyland, and Debra Messing.
