What’s up with those late fees at Blockbuster? Well, that’s exactly what some disgruntled video renters want to know. The Hollywood reporter says today that Monica Rocha, a Hollywood, Calif., denizen, has filed a class-action lawsuit Wednesday against Blockbuster for unfairly overcharging their customers on late fees.
Here’s how the late-fee system works: In what is known as the “convenience program,” the overdue penalty is based on the rental period rather than on a per-day bass.
Which means – in a nutshell — that if a Blockbuster patron checks something out on a 5-day rental period, they’d be charged a 5-day late fee, regardless if the item is only one day late.
According to the Reporter, Blockbuster makes more than $203.2 mil in late fees alone during their latest fiscal quarter.
Something to think about, when you decide to make it a Blockbuster night — or a Blockbuster week.
