Bret Michaels abandons gig amid medical emergency

Rocker Bret Michaels walked off stage during a gig on Thursday night (29May14) after falling ill. The Poison frontman, who suffers from diabetes, was just three songs into a solo set in Manchester, New Hampshire when he asked guitarist Pete Evick to take over as he left the stage.
Michaels was suffering from low blood-sugar levels and needed urgent treatment from paramedics on his tour bus.
In a statement posted on Michaels’ Facebook.com page, Evick writes, “Three songs into the set Bret had me sing a song as he rushed off stage… One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret’s blood sugar was extremely low.
“He returned to the stage only to announce that he could not continue… He basically had to be dragged off the stage in his sickest of conditions. When I rushed to the bus he could barley speak, but (he) begged me to apologise to the fans and seemed only concerned for them. As of now he is with paramedics being evaluated. We will keep you posted throughout the evening.”
A representative for Michaels later took to the singer’s Twitter.com page to thank medical staff, writing ,”Sending a shout out 2 (to) all the paramedics both on & off duty who assisted Bret tonight. No words can thank you enough for ur (your) help – Team Bret.”
The 51-year-old rocker is scheduled to perform in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on Friday (30May14), and Albany, New York on Saturday (31May14).
