Working Title Films, producers of last year’s hit Bridget Jones’s Diary, has bought the rights to The Edge of Reason, best-selling author Helen Fielding’s next novel in the Jones series.
Renee Zellweger is set to reprise her role as the chubby Bridget Jones, and will once again gain the pounds necessary to portray the perky but highly dysfunctional heroine. She will also reunite with co-stars Hugh Grant and Colin Firth in the sequel.
Edge continues the saga of Ms. Jones as she splits from barrister Mark Darcy (Firth) and sets out to become a journalist–actually interviewing the real Colin Firth in the movie. Whether the actor will play himself and Darcy remains to be seen.
Fans may also be surprised to see Grant‘s character, Daniel Cleaver, in the big screen adaptation of Edge, since he does not appear in the second book.
Filming is expected to begin later this year.
