Bullock listened to emotional voicemails placed on 9/11 for new movie

The Blind Side star plays a mother struggling to cope with the loss of her husband, played by Tom Hanks, who lost his life during the tragic events on 11 September, 2001.

And while Bullock tapped into some of her own personal emotions to bring authenticity to her character, she also met with real-life New Yorkers for research and read and listened to the final heart-wrenching farewell emails and voicemails sent by those trapped inside the World Trade Center after the Twin Towers were hit by planes.

During an appearance on U.S. breakfast show Today on Thursday (15Dec11) she said, “The fact that we were given access to them by their families or that they allowed people to have access to them, it’s a gift… So many of them were a progression of emails from, ‘I’m gonna be fine, everything’s great, don’t you worry,’ to, ‘We’re trying to find a way out’ and then of course the final outcome, but… it’s haunting and it’s inspiring that the last message, inevitably, was one of hope for the families left behind.

“As a human being, you don’t know how to comprehend that but I’m so glad that those handful of people had that gift. They didn’t have the contact that they would have loved but they are able to have the gift and strength of a loved one… What they gave is just mind-blowing.”
