Calle 13’s Residente gets directing advice from Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

Calle 13 star Residente turned to Oscar winner Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for advice as he prepared to make his directorial debut with his first solo music video.
The Puerto Rican rapper, real name Rene Perez Joglar, landed his own record deal with Sony/ATV in December (15), months after announcing Calle 13 would be taking a temporary hiatus.
He has been busy working on his new material ever since, and recently stepped behind the camera to direct the first offering from his upcoming release.
Residente has yet to share the name of the song, but he has recruited Ice Age star John Leguizamo to front his new promo, which also features Spanish actors Leonor Watling and Oscar Jaenada, and was filmed in Madrid.
The musician is now hoping to expand his filmmaking work, explaining to The Associated Press, “It’s something that I want to do, and it can be also the beginning of a career that runs parallel to my music – not only directing music videos but bigger things too.”
And he has already garnered the support of a Hollywood heavyweight: “Sometimes I write to Inarritu, and he’ll answer a few questions, make suggestions, and I have a few of those kinds of friends who can help… It’s good to listen to people who have already experienced a lot.”
