Caroline Aherne’s brother slams Peter Hook over abuse allegations

The brother of late comedienne Caroline Aherne has slammed her musician Peter Hook for alleging she abused him during their brief marriage.
The former New Order musician was married to The Mrs Merton Show star from 1994 to 1997 and wrote about their tempestuous union in his new autobiography, Substance: Inside New Order.
In the book Peter accused the funnywoman, who died in July (16) after a battle with cancer, of spousal abuse. He alleged she attacked him with “knives, bottles, (and) chairs” and had burnt him with a cigarette end.
The legendary bass guitarist’s claims were subsequently published by several U.K. newspapers.
In a post on Facebook, Caroline’s brother Patrick Aherne hit out at the Blue Monday rocker, questioning why he had waited until after his sister’s death to make public his allegations.
“I am so disgusted by the claims made by Peter Hook in most of the tabloids today,” he wrote. “Hook was married to my sister over 20 years ago and they were divorced because the marriage did not work well.
“What sort of man would make these claims after the death of Caroline? Is this because she is not here to defend herself? Why did it take Hook 20 years to make these claims?”
Patrick, who like Peter works as a musician, called on the public to boycott the book due to its claims about his sibling.
“I know the general public will now realise what type of individual Hook is and I sincerely hope that they do not waste their money on his book,” he continued.
Paying tribute to his late sister, he concluded the post, “R.I.P. Caroline – the world knows you were an amazing woman. I do not think the world will be saying the same about that excuse of a man called Peter Hook.”
Representatives for Peter have yet to respond to WENN’s request for comment.
