The CBC Monday night captured 10 of the 15 Gemini awards, Canada’s equivalent of the Emmys, but even the host of the gala presentations acknowledged that the awards were pointless given the wider attraction of American television shows in the country.
“Let’s face facts. Nobody in this goddamn country knows who any of us are,” CTV’s Mike Bullard told the audience, adding: “And by the way, security’s extra tight this year because we’re delusional.”
As reported by the Toronto Star, Bullard also had some advice to the winners: “Let’s drop the thank-yous to spouses and children. Let’s face it: Without them we’d all be driving Porsches and living in lakefront condos.”
