Charlie Sheen steals show at Elton John AIDS benefit

Charlie Sheen joked about his HIV positive status as he arrived at Elton John’s AIDS fundraiser Oscar party.
The actor, who announced he had contracted the virus in an emotional TV interview last year (15), attended wearing a T-shirt with his face on it bearing the slogan ‘Stay positively negative’.
Joking that he might be criticised for being underdressed for the party, the Wall Street actor told U.S. news outlet KABC-TV, “If somebody said, ‘You’re not wearing a tie…’ Well, I’m at an AIDS event and I brought my HIV.”
Other attendees at Elton’s Oscar-viewing bash included Caitlyn Jenner, Beck, Steven Tyler, Heidi Klum and Mariah Carey. It is the 24th time the Rocket Man singer has hosted his annual party, which raises funds for his Elton John AIDS foundation.
Since revealing his diagnosis last November (15), Charlie has spoken extensively about how it has affected his life, including how his anxiety over the illness resulted in alcohol abuse.
The Hollywood star has also called for HIV medication to be made more affordable, citing his own hefty medical bills as beyond the reach of ordinary people who need the same treatment.
“I have to take three pills each day,” Charlie told RadarOnline. “The total cost is about $4,000 (£2,879) a month, I know that’s prohibitive to a lot of people’s economic scenarios. Perhaps in my research, and in my journey, we can help develop ways that make it affordable for all.”
